Hi all
Has anyone got any suggestions for where to ride around Chiswick?
Thanks
Andy
Surrey, Berkshire and Buckinghamshire all have worth while places to ride.
Google "north downs mtb routes" and "Chiltern mtb routes"
As above, but add in Richmond and Wombledon for a nice stretch of the legs on a summer's day. Not gnarcore-xtweem-huckfest, but a nice place to go ride. Some lovely views too..... 8)
ok, I'm aware of the stuff surrounding. It's really where I can go from the front door for an hour after work. Richmond Park sounds promising.
Thanks
I cut my teeth at Richmond Park when I was a teenager, two or three laps should see you good for 15 miles or so, with some good views as a reward.
Other than that you are stuffed, unless you have a hybrid and fancy a ride along the Thames?
For anything technically challenging your going to need to travel a bit as The Brick suggested.
Captains suggestions for out of the door quick blast stuff is also good. But to add to these don't forget about the Thames path and Grand Union canal.
Starting with a short London centric loop, if you ride west from Brentford on the Canal but take the Paddington arm at Southall it'll bring you pretty close to Shepherds Bush, short road section down to Hammersmith then along the River to Kew Bridge and you're pretty much back where you started.
Longer loop: Same route out from Brentford but take the Slough arm at Cowley, shortish road section between Slough and Eton, then follow the Thames Path home. This one is pretty long as the thames path around here goes in every direction other than straight.
If you fancy an epic you can ride from Brentford to Wendover along the grand Union canal, ride around some hills for bit then head home. It's a long day but do'able.
EDIT: Just saw the after work comment.
The last two loops are really all dayers and probably not for after work. The first one is perfectly fine to fit in after work. Also forgot to add that if you do fancy a climb on the first route to break the flat monotony the Paddington Arm of the canal runs alongside Horsenden Hill which is quite nice for a quick ride up, check out the view and down again.
Swinley Forest is riding mighty fine at the mo.
River down to weybridge, get bacon sandwich, round richmond park and barnes on the way back, 42 Miles, add laps of park if you want longer.
Swinley Forest is where its at, but its 30 miles from Chiswick.
If this chap wants a quick blast after work then Richmond Park is about the best bet for any kind of prolonged off road/trail type riding.
To be fair, Chiswick is borderline capital city center.
Made it to Richmond Park today. It does the after work blast well enough. Thanks for all the help.
Beware of strange men in bushes in Horsenden Hill area! Used to go there with the running club for evening hill sessions. Definitely felt a bit uncomfortable on your own in the evening though I think it would be ok on the bike.
