Starting a contract in Reading soon. Can anyone tell me about the local MTB clubs / regular rides and routes?
I'm likely to be based near to the madejski stadium.
I mostly ride cross country.

Swinley Forest is a mile or two to the south of Bracknell and is well worth a trip, lots of singletrack although much of it is hidden and not waymarked.
There are some good rides from Reading up into the Chilterns, but the riding is more bridleway than singletrack.
BOB are pretty close by and have a variety of XC stylee rides each week.

We go from Caversham bridge on Wednesday evenings and Sunday mornings, mostly in the Chilterns. Just turn up and ride.
John.
Find some locals to show you around Swinley near Bracknell. Very enjoyable even for a sweary Northener on an Orange 5. If you go on your own you'll have no chance of finding your way around.
thats great. thanks all. if anyone is a swinley rider, i'd be happy to hear more. any gpx files or links also gratefully received.
Swinley's good. GPX's don't really work too well though as there can be 2/3/4/5 trails within a few feet of each other, best bet is finding a local to show you arround (I'll probably be moving back in a few months).
Tunnel hill trolls are a good laugh on tuesdays (all welcoming) and thursdays (faster), and plenty of other rides on an ad-hock basis.
ReadingCC are good too if you like road rides, not many propper hills though, although there are a few deceptivly tough ones, just don't expect alp'd'huez.
On a related note, are you looking for monday-friday lodgings? And who are you contracting for?
I worked in Reading 10 years ago and lived in Pangbourne. The bike shop there did/still does regular shop rides and the routes around that area are/were superb.

The 'shop' rides are now run from another website and meet on the industrial estate opposite where the shop used to be.
