We have been using Gmaps as a plotter for various rides but it does notseem to be able to do OS even though it says it does.
The various droves on the somerset levels and little lanes Gmaps does not recognize them.

Is there another plotter you think we could use with firefox ?

Let me try...

1) Turn on the GPS gadggie you use and go on your ride.
2) Save the track/route
3) Look at your GPS manual to find out how to export it from the GPS gadggie
4) When you come to export it (to your PC) seek the option that says "Save as GPX" and choose it
5) Then go here http://wtp2.appspot.com/wheresthepath.htm
6) At the bottom of the screen is an icon that, when you hover over it says'Upload as GPX'
7) Do that
8) Robert is your mother's brother - you can see your track on OS AND on a gorgeous satellite image - zoomie zoomie, innie outtie etc etc.

Hope that helps - mine's a pint

Trouble is we dont have a GPS gadggie.

We have a program on the mac that we use to plot our rides but it wont recognize lanes and paths even though they are on the OS maps.
The program is called GMAPS

OIC - so this is pre-ride routeplanning? And the output is a paper map or itinerary to use during the ride? If so, still try the link above - as it does that kind of thing too.

Scrumpy preferably.

Gmaps is Google Maps I think? - in which case it is almost entirely car-centric. And yes if we're talking about the same thing its a site not an app.

I have tried this site http://wtp2.appspot.com/wheresthepath.htm However it will leave the roadside to follow a bridleway.
Is there any other way to get it to go round corners.

Holly mate - you've been at the zider again aintcha?

To make it go round corners, just make a lot of small straight lines. The programme 'joins the dots' with straight lines only, so will only join waypoints with straight lines. Why do you need to follow the curves so precisely?

i use walkhighlands to plot mine, you can export and import gpx from there to 1:50000 OS maps, they used to have 1:25000 if you register, but is temporarily down.

Well its not me its the wife.
She and her daughter ride every morning doing about 10/17 miles and they like to vary the routes and they like to be precise on the mileage they do.
She got in a right tis last night with the other site http://wtp2.appspot.com/wheresthepath.htm Needless to say she lacks patients there and left it lol

I use bikehike.co.uk. Works well with OS, imports and exports GPX files too.
