currently have a fairly newish hope tech enduro 29” that I’ve put a minor bend in. Happy to keep riding it but I’m considering what to replace with. Always had good luck with hope rims in 26 and 27.5 flavours.
id like to re use the spokes if possible as money isn’t freely flowing
I’d like it a bit wider
not weight obsessed as I’m a heavy rider.
current options seem to be either the new hope Fortus in appropriate width or a stans flow. Any other suggestions? Eventually I’ll need to do the front as well as mis matching wheels is just not cricket.
DT Swiss EX511 if you want a strong 30mm internal width rim that isn’t ludicrously heavy. Should be better than both the Hope and Stan’s options.
Hope Fortus rims are silly heavy.
DT EX471/511 if you abuse wheels, XM481/421 if you are gentler.
If you want to re use the spokes then check the rim ERD, also have a look and see how the spoke lengths are on the existing rim, if they are on the short or long side it will make a difference to what you might get away with.
What sort of bend? They can often be fixed. Maybe post a pic.
If you do go for new then, as above, get the right ERD so you can re-use the spokes. Line up the valve hole and tape the new rim to the old, then you can move the spokes across one at a time for a quick and easy wheel build.
Old rims fine, not perfect but I’ve dented the rim (still staying up tubeless) and put a wobble into it which I’ve straightened. Happy building and replacing rims and I’m going to keep running this till i kill it properly. Just wanted to ask the hive minds opinions, the dt rims sound worth investigating, definitely a bit of a wheel abuser but have just gone to something with a bit more travel so shouldn’t be as hard on them as I have been.

Another way to do it is to tape each spoke together at the cross over point with electrical tape
Remove all the nipples and pull the rim away from the spokes, the spokes will all stay in place
Then place the new rim within the spokes and start lacing it up, Ive been doing it this way for nearly 30 years

Never thought of doing that way. I always tape the rims together and swap spoke by spoke.
Hmmm 🤔 I wonder which would be quicker? I'll try your way next time.
