Replacing front rin...

Best place to get replacement front rings from? This is an old pic but they're quite worn now...

Any links to the exact ones would be great.

Also will I need to take the crank arm off to get the middle and smallest ring off? Not worked on a hollowtech II bottom bracket before.

Sorry for the delay in response.

Ring size is 44 32 22 (i think thats correct counted by hand and hard get to middle ring with bike locked up!)

What do you think of these, overly worn or ok? The rear cogs look fine I think, but not sure about the fronts...

You'll need to change the chainrings, cassette and chain all together, once their well worn. You (well I) cannot look at a cassette and read how worn it is...

Yes you need to remove the crankset to get to the inner ring, though the middle can be done on the bike IIRC, it's so easy to remove the HT II crankset, it not worth, not taking it off.

Rosebike.co.uk usually do decent prices on Shimano chainrings. Unless you really feel you need XT rings, SLX or deore chain rings will work fine with your M770 chainset (though may require a little adjusting of the new chainring tabs with a file). Other replacement chainrings are available, but as one guy asked me "will these rings, that cost double the price of deores, last twice as long"... "No" is the answer. Again deore/SLX chains and cassette will work just fine, but knock yourself out and buy XT if you want.

The question to be asked IMO, is, why do you want to replace the rings? Unless your chains snapped several time, or your having issues with chainsuck or the chain slipping, you've no need to replace them yet.

Thanks for the info will check rosebike out!

I've put a new chain on 2 weeks ago and tend to do everytime the parktool chain checker passes the 0.75 mark. Since i've put the new chain on i'm getting the chain stuck between 2nd and 3rd front ring when I shift up or down. Same chain as prior the Wipperman Connex 900, I put it down to getting stuck on front worn teeth?

Everything else is fine with the other gear combos.

I've tried that and it failed miserably for me, I believe to do that properly you need to rotate a (3) set of chains from month to month right from the start, rather than when your chain checker read's 0.75, but I accept we all have different ideas about maintenance.
TBH I just run my chainsets till they die (explode) & replace the whole lot.

It may just be worth popping the middle ring off and filing off the hooks that (will) have formed on the teeth, this extends the life of the chainset IME, and maybe where your's is stuggling.

Just a suggestion - but take this opportunity to 'upgrade' to one of the newer composite middle rings - quieter shifting, and has the wear characteristics of steel (because it is!) with the weight of ally. Will need to get the file out to make it fit though ๐Ÿ™

Doubt you'll need to replace the 44 tooth unless its damaged from strikes or you spend loads of time in it...I'd suggest deore steel ring middle and inner. Try that and if the gears skip in the higher gears on the cassette, change that as well

PS: checking over a m8's SC Superlight, he's managed to wear a grove right though in his front mech, I asked if he's having shifting issues but he believe's not (it runs like a dog on the stand). It's always worth checking other stuff over, to confirm it's not aggrevating other worn bits.

Or if you are going to have to replace the rings anyway, just put the old chain back on and ride it until you have problems.

The benefit to changing the chain early is so you don't have to replace the rings and cassette too, but looks like you might have missed that boat.

Edit: Saying that from your later posts it sounds like your cassette is fine.

Thanks Rorschach, if I do replace i'll probably go for a different material as suggested.

There is no strike damage i'm aware of, only issue i'm having is purely big ring 2nd to 3rd up and down, on occasion it almost gets trapped in between the gears. Is this chain suck?

Rich my old chain would just about let me put the "1" side of the chain checker in when I binned it.

Like Zippy I run everything until it all wears out together which is usually aaaages as it all keeps working when nothing new is added, so not sure about chain checkers.

They are the m780's with the composite 32t.
