[Closed] Replacement Seat Stay £320 - Is there anything else I can do?

I recently went over the bars coming down the Ranger path. I come out unscathed, but severely dented the stay on my Trek Fuel 29er. The dropouts are now out of line making it difficult to get the axle through.

Trek have quoted £320 for a replacement. LBS have recommended getting it changed. Being a tight ass, before biting the bullet, I was wondering if there's anything else that can be done? Or does anyone happen to have a spare chainstay for a Trek Fuel 29er I can buy?

No idea but an owner of an elderly Fuel myself I'm interested

sounds like a crash would easily write mine off

Your options...

-Bite said bullet and pay the £320
-Buy a used bike / frame and take the rear and sell rest
-Buy a totally different frame
-Bodge it back inline and pretend nothing happened

£320? For a seat stay? Or is that for the complete rear end?

Personally, I'd just bite the bullet. Any bodge or repair will always be at the back of your mind when hitting anything hard. It does seem a lot, but in context it's no worse than casing a landing and taco'ing both your wheels.

Ask around at trek dealers?

I snapped a seatstay on my old Kona at Mabie, next day of walked into shop in innerleithen

'Don't suppose you have a seatstay for a Kona Bear'

'No but we do have the rear triangle off a stinky that fell under an uplift van'

Cost me 50 quid and the seatstay weighed a bit more but had loads of mud clearance, rode it like that for another 5 years before I saw a genuine one on a CRC sale

£320 just for the chainstays seems unduly steep to me!

Just out of curiosity how old is the bike and are you the original owner?

TREK CARE LOYALTY PROGRAM
Sometimes accidents happen and you may need to replace a non-warranty damaged frame or part. That's why we made the Trek Care Loyalty Program. We know how much you love your Trek bike and understand the burden of having to replace a non-warranty damaged bike frame or part. This program can be used to obtain a discount on a replacement frame or component in the case of nonwarranty damage. Contact your local authorized dealer for details

If £320 was the discounted price, I hate to see what the full price is 😐
