Any recommendations for a replacement for a pair of 25mm gp4000s? Gp5000s would be the obvious choice but they're on the pricy side. Use will be mainly on my summer road bike. Thanks
Another paid of gp4000’s if you can find them? Best road tyres I’ve found so far. Heard the gp5000’s are faster / lighter but less puncture resistant. Talking about run with inner tubes - not committed to tubeless on the road bike so far and don’t intend to.
I like the gp5000. I used to run pro ones on my summer bike and didn't like them (got them before gp5000 came out and wanted tubeless).
Edit: ran tubed gp4000 before this and really like them too
GP5000, just bare in mind 23/25/28s don't size up as big as GP4000 S IIs, while the 32mm sizes up small (new one on my 19mm inner rim width is ~30mm).
Amazon have been selling them cheap at ~£31 recently.
Yes, I replaced GP4000 25s with GP5000 25s. Came up almost like 23s and were really tight to get on the rims.
I was very disappointed - until I rode them, they felt very compliant. But there's no point carrying a spare tube or a pump. If these puncture it's a taxi ride home they're so tight!
Interesting they don't size up as big, they're to go a pair of 25mm outer rims. Is the height similar as that's the bit that will hit the underside of the forks if I size up
The 5000 25s are not as tall as the 4000 25s. There's a very noticeable extra 3 or 4mm clearance. When I tried 4000 28s they fouled on my Campag Record brake calipers, I'm wondering if I could get away with 28s, but if I was buying new, I would probably look for some that weren't as tight.
I've gone for gp 5000 in 25c.
I can't get them on my rims for love nor money. First tyres since 97 I haven't managed to fit! 4000 28c and 4000 25c fit my rims fine.
I'm having one more go and if they don't fit I'll be listing them on the classifieds.
If ithey don't fit i'd love a recommendation for 25c, tubeless road tyres for pootling about and the odd long distance ride
My gp5000s fitted very easily and went up no trouble with a track pump. I guess I'm lucky?
I would have recommended GP4000s as well, am sure one of the rolling resistance websites suggested the GP4000 was faster/lighter than the GP5000, at the expense of puncture resistance...
Edit: apologies, I'm talking nonsense, as some said above, 5000 faster/lighter but lower puncture resistance.

Personally I'd be prepared to take my chances with the punctures, I know what my next tyres will be...
Same Adam - mine went on easy enough on Mavic rims. 5000s are smaller than the comparable sized 4000s.
I replaced a knackered 25mm GP4000S with a new 28mm GP5000 and they're the same size. Fitting wasn't any bother. The GP5000TL however is evil. For the first time in my life I needed tools to get it on and I've no chance of fitting a spare tube at the roadside.
I had no problems either when setting up my 28s on the standard DT Swiss on my Tarmac. Got them on by hand without any fuss. It may be there are specific rim combos that don't work well?
28mm GP5000s were an easy fit on my Mavic Ksyrium rims.
How do GP5000 28s compare to GP4000 28s?
I'd like to go slightly bigger then my current GP4000 25s, but apparently the clearance for GP4000 28s on my frame is *very* close. If the GP5000 are a gnats smaller that might make all the difference.
28mm GP5000s measure up about the same as GP 4 Seasons apparently, so ~29mm (whereas GP4000S IIs are ~31.5mm), it's the one size I don't have... Yet.

How do GP5000 28s compare to GP4000 28s?
Narrower, I swapped 28mm 4000s for 32mm 5000s and they were still smaller!
I'd say the 5000s are about 15-20% smaller than the 4000s across the board. I'd buy the 4000s if I could still get them.
I've also noticed the 5000s don't wear as well, I'm 3000km in on a pair of 5000 28mms and the tyre wear indicators have almost gone. Wear is very similar between front and rear, which I wasn't expecting, maybe disc brakes make up for the lighter load on the front tyre by allowing for more aggressive braking (I brake much later and hard with disc brakes).
I went from GP4000s to Hutchinson Fusion 5 Performance 11 Storms and am happy with them - they seem just as good if not a bit better. One of the reasons to go Hutchinson was that the GP5000s were a crazy price at the time.
The Hutchinsons are set up tubeless whereas the GP4000s were tubed so it's perhaps not a fair comparison.
When it comes time for new tyres I'll be giving 5000TL's a go assuming they're more afordable by then.
i went from 28mm gp4000s to gp5000s clinchers, on the same rims the 5000 where about 2-3mm narrower.
I'll probably go 32mm next time in the 5000s
