This is the first time I have had to remove the BB on my Trance. When I installed it I made a bodge tool of threaded rod and big washers which worked fine. As there is nothing holding it in apart from interference fit, I assume I just need to find a suitable drift and employ violence? Is there a more subtle method?
What was wrong with threaded BBs I would like to know.

Park Tool do a special tool, but I simply bash them out if I'm replacing them. They do have their uses, on CX and MTB frames, the wider shell means more tyre clearance and stiffness - I usually get 2-3 years out of one which is better than I get with a threaded HT2 or GXP

Frames are cheaper to manufacture too. No threads, don't need facing as the plastic cup can handle a small amount of misalignment

Given the choice I'd pay the extra for a few threads rather than have something that is a pain in the arse to get in/out and lasts half as long as a threaded bb ๐Ÿ˜
