[Closed] Removing a completely seized pedal with heat?

I have a pedal that is completely seized. It will not budge.

I am going to try some heat, with a gas blow torch.

So do I try and heat the alloy crank to expand it? Or do I heat the steel pedal shaft to expand it, then when it cools it should be a bit slacker?

Anyone had to do this?

Obvious question, but you are turning the right way?
Kettle of boiling water works for me usually.

Heart the crank. Then apply shock force. I.e. tap spanner with a hammer. Much better at freeing stuff than sustained pressure.

But as above, make sure you're doing it the right way!

Make sure you are turning the right way. Spanner engaged and pointing upwards, pull towards the back of the bike. Same for either side.

Vice and an old seat tube or set of handlebars as a persuader usually works for me.

What if the bike is upside down?

Yes I'm turning it the right way!

I'll give it a go when I get a new gas canister.

More leverage! A 2 or 3ft socket bar should do it surely??

Heat the crank and then try to turn it when hot. It works because the aluminium crank expands faster than the steel pedal axle.
