Anyone had an appendix out? If so how long off the bike? Friends son is really promising road cyclist having won his age category up north last year and was due to go on a youth training camp but is in hospital now about to have appendix out. Training camp abroad is in three weeks time.

I had mine out when I was 11. Hurt like hell to walk straight after the op. I remember being off school for a month but forget how long I was not able to exercise (it was 20 years ago).

Had my gall bladder removed and cleared to exercise at 4 weeks. Took it easy for couple of weeks and then just carried on as normal. Not the same but might help.

Friend had his out with normal operation and he was restricted for 3-4 weeks. My oldest son had his out arthroscopically and was riding in about 14 days, albeit a little carefully.

Depends if it's open or keyhole surgery. Open chops through more muscle and needs longer recovery. I had keyhole a couple of years ago. Hurt like **** at first but was much better within a week or so. I reckon he'll want to (and definitely should) take it easy at 3 weeks.
