XTR cassette needs replacing. For similar money I could get this http://clee-cycles.co.uk/esite/P1524/product only 190g. Does anyone have any experience with Recon cassettes?

Tried one of the 9 speed recon ones lasted about 1500 miles in mainly dry conditions you can get the xx cassettes cheap at www.bike-discount.de...

I would personally recommend a Dura-Ace cassette rather than either of these options. I have been getting on really well with mine (12-28)

Similar weight to the Recon but with the life of XTR. There are plenty of new/ barely used ones on ebay. If you read up on weightweenies you will notice that the life and shifting of the Recon probably isn't a good investment although it initially looks tempting.

Hmmm...still looks tempting. I could reclaim the XTR cassette on my 'race day' wheels...I doubt if they will ever see 1500 miles anytime soon.

If they're anything like the KCNC I tried for a race once I wouldn't bother..

Stick a standard XT on and buy some new shades with the leftover cash ๐Ÿ’ก

Common sense has been restored. I'll give it a miss. Thanks for the sanity check.

If you are fit the road cassettes are light and cheaper than XTR, plus you can run a shorter cage mech.

Don't shift nearly as well as Shimano, I'd put up with one for racing I reckon - tempted myself. KCNC ones are crap because the scandium sprockets snap! Experimental Prototype have just done a carbon cassette - well impressed with his ti chain rings.

Dura Ace ones limit your ratios massively, found that crap myself!

Following on from njee20;

- If you need a wide spread of ratios and don't mind a jump between gears then go for XTR.
- If you don't need a wide spread and like your ratios a little closer together then Dura-Ace is perfect off road.

I agree though that if you are going for 1x9/10 then a Dura-Ace may not be ideal due to the smaller spread.

I guess the message is stick to Shimano for cassettes ๐Ÿ˜€

I ran a 12-27 block with a triple and still found it bloody annoying, unless you ride very flat places the close jumps are not advantageous at all IMO. YMMV of course.
