Heya, my girlfriend is looking to get her first MTB to go onto the single tracks in the Welsh mountains.
She's planning on spending around £250 but unfortunately we both do not have enough experience regarding what are the good/bad makes and models to look for second hand.
This is where I am so far with a list.

Maarzocchi bombers for forks, as in old 2006 and backwards. As they reliable and picked up at reasonable prices.
Retro bike is a good source swell. For older parts and modern.

if you're looking for 2nd hand forks, and you mention Marzochi as a starting point, then i'll assume you're not *that* fussed about weight.
in which case, ebay seems full of rockshox xc/recon 'silver' forks.
the 'turnkey' (TK) damping is good enough, the chrome steel stanchions are bullet-proof - so they'll be serviceable, but they're not exactly light...
