After "enjoying" (in a somewhat painful way!) a road cycling trip to Majorca, I'm looking for something similar for June. Going with a friend so looking for an independent / self-guided trip, rather than a guided / group holiday.

Basic requirements:
- diversity of good road routes (both climbs and undulating)
- warm, sunny weather, but not too hot
- bike facilities (store / cleaning etc)
- route info / maps available
- easy access to airport, preferably with airport pick-up available
- a pool

Happy with either self-catering villa / cottage with easy access to places to eat, or half-board small hotel / B&B.

Cheers peeps!

How about provence? Close to enough to the coast and the alps for a varying week?

stick a pin in a map i guess!

for me it would be hilly, and quiet as main priorities.

I've got some ideas for general areas - France / Spain / Italy eg Provence, Vercors, Dolomites, Pyrenees, Tuscany, somewhere in Spain?

But not really got any idea about specific places / accomodation etc, so looking for suggestions / recommendations from anyone who might have been there / done that already ๐Ÿ™‚

Camino de Santiago (the way of the pilgrims) looks a good route to follow.

A popular chappie from my local club has set up in Morzine; seems to be offering what you're looking for?

I don't know him, but then I only turn up to about 4 events a year ๐Ÿ™‚

I really like Sardinia, we've done self-catered in Alghero a few times now (although never anywhere with a pool!). Warm, sunny, good weather, mostly considerate drivers and outside the towns, very quiet roads. Being Italian it's good food and drink as well. ๐Ÿ™‚

Maps are good and it's easy to get routes from flat to very hilly. the roads are really good as well (outside the towns anyway).

Ryanair fly to Alghero, Easyjet fly to both Olbia and Cagliari (although I've never been to the south half of the island).

Thanks for the suggestions guys, I'll look into them tonight.

Sandwich ... rather curious! Is there a particular reason why you can't put up a link?

Any other suggestions? A friend mentioned the Italian Bike Hotels - anyone used them before?

here is a free roadbook to download for road cycling in Sardinia

Would strongly recommend the SS125 east coast road "Italy's mmost scenic road". We cycled it and ended up living here, running a guesthouse for sports people. ciao Peter
