[Closed] Recommendations on an all round trail tyre?

I have an oldish Turner 5 spot with 130mm Vanillas. I live in London, so my riding is random and very varied! Wales, Scotland, Dorking, Epping.....
Any recommendations on a good all seasons tyre, or is it really best to swap in the winter? I haven't yet found a relationship between the seasons that I can predict, so am thinning of an all year round all rounder!

Thanks in advance and yes I have tried searching previous threads.... 😀

Maxxis Minion DHF is my my default option, High Roller front, ADvantage back also works well.

Bonty XR4. I've had a set of 2.35s on (Team Issue TLR) and they've just been phenomenal. Grippy but not at all draggy

They're a bit of a danger because when you ride over wet roots etc you automatically factor in a bit of slippage. When these grip like chewing gum on your shoe you find yourself going where you hadn't expected.

Bontrager XR4. For a non-mud tyre they're good at not clogging up, roll fairly fast, and corner well even when not leant right over. The 2.2 is pretty big (bigger than 2.35 HR). Work well tubeless, just drop the pressures a bit when it's wet.

Excellent guys, thanks for some top tips.... a quick search on these, reveals a massive price range from £15-£35

I guess it's a wire v folding issue? So any advice on the 'worth it' factor of folding?

Currently, using the Bonty as an example, you can buy 2 wire ones for the price of a folding!!

Thanks again

The better rubber and lighter construction tyres (and therefore the nicest to ride) are the ones which have the kevlar bead. The wire ones just look the same.

Spend the extra. After all, if the tyres are good, they'll be the only part in contact with the ground 😀

2.35 High Rollers or 2.1 Nevegal/Blue Groove combo if you want a bit less volume. I find these pretty good for "most" situations.

Advantages. Best all round tyre I've found for years.

Also the Bontragers come in two different carcass 'weights'. The higher TPI is a bit lighter and a bit more flexible (more grip and rolls better). That flexibility would also make it more prone to pinch flats but it's so high volume that they're unlikely - and it tubelesses well if you want to guarantee they never happen. Wear rate seems very good and they're not expensive even in the fanciest configuration so I'll be getting another nice one when the back wears out (and sticking the old front on the back).

I like to use 'all-round' tyres for months with an R in them, and I stick a faster tyre on the back for the months without an R in them.

HR/Minion are good and grippy up front but slow out back.

Nevegals are good all-rounders but not fast.

Minion front/Ardent rear. it draggy in places but means you can push hard on the descents. For some longer distance mountain rides I have planned up here in Scotland this summer I am going to try Ardent front/crossmark rear.

Anyone have any feedback on WTB tyres? Prowler or WeirWolf? CRC have some UST ones cheap and they seem like a good width.
