[Closed] Recommendation for travel wash for cycling shorts

Hi all,

I have a 5 day cycle holiday in the Pyranees in June.

We move to a different hotel every night and need to pack light for the transfer van. I therefore intend to take 2 pairs of cycle bibs and wash in the sink and rotate on a daily basis.

So far my strategy is a (cheap) travel wash and a bag of Dettol antibacterial wash additive and wash the shorts as soon as I get in to the hotel. 2 pairs will give them over 24 hours to dry.

Sound good? Any recommended products that I should consider taking instead??

This will be my first multi-day cycle holiday so I have no experience of what could go wrong. I am not keen on saddles sores and infection down there, so I'd like to get this right first time!

Cheers

5 days? Call me a dirty bugger but I wouldn't bother washing stuff on such a short trip. Just swap shorts each day. For longer trips we have often used the travel soap stuff easily available in camping shops. Forget the name. Works well enough, stuff needs a proper machine wash by the time we get home but we don't mind being grubby on tour.

I think the dettol might be overkill to be honest. If you are washing them pretty much straight away then just the travel wash. Worked fine for me on trips in the past. I used lifeventure multipurpose soap as I had a bottle left from other trips.

Just makes sure you rinse them really well at the end as residual soap may be an irritant if you get sweaty.

As above, I wouldn't bother with the Dettol myself, washing shorts every day should be plenty good enough. If you want something a bit more than the usual travel wash (which is usually pretty bog standard detergent in a small bottle with a big mark up) Tesco do a "sports and workwear anti-bacterial detergent" which might be worth a try.

Quality. That all sounds good. Apart from you, thecaptain, you dirty bugger ๐Ÿ˜›

I will check out the Tesco sports and workwear stuff. I have used the lifeventure stuff before but it was pricey as I recall.

Glad to hear a wash and dry immediately might be all I need.

BTW the Dettol product I mentioned is this. Pretty good IME from home washing. My cycling kit gets much less stinky.

Just use what you'd use at home.

Cheers for the link, I'll have to give that stuff a try if my Tesco liquid doesn't work out. Travelling aside, some of my cycle tops have gone distinctly Helly Hansen on me!

Shower gel. Just take them in the shower with you.

Shower gel, soap, whatever your accommodation supplies. It's only a couple of washes.
