My 24 mile commute home is 10 miles road and the rest canal, looking for a faster tyre on the road but will cope with very bumpy/stoney and sometimes muddy tow paths etc
currently running small block 8`s but these seem quite draggy on the road, fine on the canals .. recommend me another tyre
I always liked schwalbe land cruisers, but they're heavy
The wire bead conti cycloXking in a 35mm sounds about right. Had some on my xls and was surprised at their all round capability. Pretty cheap too.
conti cx speeds?
Not so good in mud, but if you want less draggy on the road...
I've put some Conti Travel Contacts on my Tripster - 700x37 - light (for what they are) and fast and remarkably ok offroad too. Land Cruisers are good, but as mentioned, a little portly. They're very quick for what they are on the road though due to their centre section.
thinking of the conti cx speeds, got SB8 at the mo, - good pick of a bunch I reckon
I use Vittoria xn pro's all year round, on road and off road on the Quantocks. They're not brilliant on mud but the Quantocks is more sandy/rocky than muddy so it's not a problem.

As above. forget any knobbly and go for a nice big puncture proof touring tyre. you won't find the supposed lack of grip an issue but you will like the speed and lack of punctures.
If you are feeling rich look for something with the above but a folding bead to keep the weight down.
That sort of thing as done me for years on gravel, mud and stones.
Land cruisers. The extra weight just means they last longer and puncture less. Better training too.
I read this when I was looking at the CX speeds. Worth a read for a perspective on burly v light for the same sort of terrain.

Halo twin rails are quite resilient.
landcruisers are solid and fast on the road and ok off road but are heavy. think they about 650 grams?
would like a folder version at around 400-450g that offers good puncture protection and weight
schwalbe get on it!
I use schwalbe wire rimmed cx comps with puncture protection .480g,allegedly .
Super cheap.I pump them up hard for the road commute,a bit softer for mixed terrain.
They aren't infallible ,but a lot less deflatable than the kenda slant six's that were
very good on wet off-road but always seemed to puncture on road.
I keep on meaning to try tubes topped up with stans gunk and give them another go.
I'm using Panaracer Pasela TG, 28mm on mine. Seems good enough on dry woodland sections, grips well on gravel (or gravelled/gritty road sections anyway) and in the wet. Must say, I'm as happy with them as I was the Schwalbe Marathons, and they are a third of the weight!
I switched from SB8s to Sammy Slicks, only one puncture in 2000 miles.
D'oh! I said it...........
