I'm looking for a waterproof jacket for mtb use, must be fairly hard wearing ideally fairly well fitting (not too baggy). Any happy customers?

The main question you need to ask yourself is do you really want a waterproof?

Waterproofs are less breathable and on a bike where you are sweating often make you as damp as if you'd not worn one!

I use the Gore Alp-x SO jacket which is a windproof but is also water resistant. It cuts the wind out but is thin enough to wear on days that are just cool or with a mid layer underneath is good for sub zero temps. Expensive but highly recommended

Yes I do want a waterproof, none are really waterproof though are they. How water resistant is it?

Endura Stealth is pretty waterproof but not very breathable (and it's insulated so only really useful when temps are around freezing). My favourite is the On-One Winter jacket but they stopped doing them (I wish they'd get some more done *cough* Brant *cough*). It's surprisingly breathable (better than my Gore Phantom) and seems waterproof, they were cheap to.

I've just bought Bonty eVent jacket, seems pretty good so far.
Means my old Gill jacket is for sale, if you want a cheap one:

that looks like the kind of thing, would be interested to know if anyone has any longer term experience with it?

My winter jacket wardrobe is endura windchill, then if it really starts jeffing it down then a Pace 3x3 over the top. ( dunno if you can still get hold of the pace jacket, but IMO is best compromise between fit, resistance to rain and stuffability in a pack

Pace 3x3 is still available, direct from Pace website I think. I was going to get one, but went for the Bonty as I didn't want a dull grey jacket (as I'll use it on the road also) and I wanted pit-zips.

eVent/Gore/etc shells are indeed genuinely waterproof, but a) you sweat and b) there need to holes for your head/arms/body.
