Basic sets are usually pretty nasty carbon steel things, try and go for HSS cutting tools, my personal favourites are SKF Dormer, not cheap, but worth paying for.

Better off buying the ones you need in a better quality as Coatesy says

Good point, well made.
Any tips on where to buy single bits?

Are you looking for a set just to clean up damaged threads or cut new threads? I've got a set of carbon steel tap and dies from Aldi (for £15 IIRC), which has been good for cleaning up damaged threads and can cut new threads in alu. Not sure I'd recommend it for cutting new threads in steel however. Includes M3 to M12 plus a few imperial so no good if you really need that M2.

find out where your nearest cromwell tools is (or similar) and nip in and buy what you need when you need it.

if in doubt, take a bolt in and let them measure it for you, so you ge tthe right pitch and diameter.

You won't want that Aldi shite then. Get quality HSS at the very least.

use a good cutting compound for steel and probably for the Ti as well.

edit: you can use paraffin for alu
