Want something to use on and off the bike (so the Garmin Edge series are out) and would ideally like to be able to upload to the pc.
Looking at the Garmin FR60 and Polar RS300x. Price of all the accessories puts me off the polar a bit.
What are people using out there?
Cheers
I've got a very old forerunner still going strong. Great bit of kit. The Garmin Connect site is also excellent, but without GPS not much of a selling point.
Do you miss not having gps?
Decathlon do their own brand stuff, which is a big chunk cheaper than a lot of other products.
Sorry topangarider not making myself very clear. The forerunner has GPS and I loves it but I don't think the FR you're looking at has it, the garmin connect site has great mapping functions so without GPS not sure it will be that great for an FR user. Personally couldn't do without GPS, great for keeping track of miles and routes.
Sorry - I get you.
Do you find it useful to be able to pinpoint Heart rate peaks etc to locations on the map? On the software, is it possible to upload the HR data, then asign a route to it thats entered manually?
Any other recommendations?
Ive just received an RS300x y'day from heartratemonitor.co.uk. (delivery was within 16 hours of ordering!!) and its exactly what I was after. You can set 3 heart rate zones which was what I needed and it stores the last 16 sessions on the watch for you - in case you cant download them to your computer straight away.
I didnt bother with the foot pod or GPS thingys - not heard great reviews about them.
The watch looks smart enough for everyday wear too. I think theyre at 90 quid delivered on amazon at the moment too.
agree - get forerunner - all the functions of an edge just wrist mounted.
My wife loves hers for running and she's a compelete technophobe.
No upload feature, but the ones from Aldi are a bargain.
I have the watch and the bike computer - about £15 each. Both have worked perfectly for the last 12 months.
dickydutch - do you use any of the bike sensors? Seems a bit of a faff having a cadence and a speed one - the Garmin one does both.
Also - did you get the download thing? Is it any good?
Do the Aldi ones let you set custom training zones?
Polar are extreemly poor if you have a problem. You will need to use their service centre for a a battery change and they are hopeless.

I dont use any sensors with mine. Ive also not bought the download thing. My last one was a polar and I just used the microphone method (the watch sends out a series of beeps and the mic picks them up) which worked. The new download thing looks good though!! How much is the comparable garmin youre considering?
Had a Suunto T3C cycling pack for about a month, comes with the HRM and a bike pod sensor for speed, distance etc, records all you need. Got it from Evans for £119 using thier price match. Downside is that you have to buy a PC pod for about 40 notes to use it with a computer.
DD - The garmin fr60 is £90 + 40 for the bike sensor and 35 for down load to computer thing - so pretty comparable really.
