Hi guys
I'm a total newbie when it comes to gps ,
Can anyone recommend one for me please,
Basic requirements are the ability to download routes from the net such as those in the mags,
And being able to retrace my ride back to the start when I go exploring,
Budget is around £120 and I don't mind if it's 2nd hand .
Thanks
Ian
Second hand Garmin edge 700 would do the job then.
Secondhand Garmin 705
Free maps from raven family website
I paid about 150 for mine about a year ago
Well, a basic Garmin one will allow you to record your routes, so's you can view them later in Google Earth which is fun, and other data such as speed, distance etc.
This one is in your budget:

You can bung routes into it, and a little arrow thingy will point you in the right direction, but it won't do maps; you have to spend a good bit more, and then more on the map software so it can get very spensive indeed...
This seems to be the new version of the Edge 205 I have, which is great.
would suggest you'll get much more out of your mountain biking by buying the relevant OS map and using that to identify where you are, and routes back/on to where you want to be. And a smartphone in your backpack if you really need gps and maps. Ok addition to real maps, but much much bigger 'screen' on the paper ones.....
