Next year I am fifty and planning a big roadtrip for a few of us to celebrate.
We are mostly xc type riders but don't mind steep ups and downs, were just a bit old in the tooth for Northshore type stuff and like to keep our wheels reletively close to the ground ๐
Any recommendations for anywhere in the world appreciated

If you want a trip of a lifetime, go do Dushanbe to Bishkek via Osh (that's Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan).
Most utterly beautiful road I've ever ridden. Perfect for an xc bike with a small-load. Millions of places to stay. Gorgeous terrain. Massive mountain passes over unpaved roads. Easy to get visas. Unbelievably friendly people. Culture shock.
trip of a LIFETIME
