I need to install a ground anchor and appropriate locks for my pride and joy in the garage

Any recommendations in terms of good security vs good value

Cheers

Oli

These guys are often recommended http://securityforbikes.com/

I've got locks, chain and ground anchor from them and they certainly look pretty tough

either of those (above) are 'value', in that if you buy a 16mm chain, lock and ground anchor, unless the thieves are seriously tooled up, they aren't going to take you bike. This assumings you lock everything up & not just the frames...other wise there a good chance they'll just strip your very well locked frames

Builders bucket full of concrete, some plumbers 1.5 inch pipe, and the biggest chain you can get, makes a very effective ground anchor, its movable just.
Great if you can not drill into a concrete floor.

i just made sure that what I bough was Sold Secure Gold so that my insurance company would pay out if necessary.

So I've got a bunch of these chains and ground anchors (they're all SS Silver Motorcycle and Gold bicycle rated)

Bolt down anchors should do the trick and aren't very expensive, as for locks motorbike news seem to be the cheapest and best. I wouldn't go daft cos they'll just cut through your frame and sell the bits.

Oh, and the Amozon link above lists the Sold Secure rating of that chain wrong:

Not cheap but the best never is. You could always sell it to the Navy if they need a new anchor chain!

If it's a up and over door then definitely fit some of these - Enfield Garage Bolt Locks
Your best defence is stoping them gaining entry in the first place! Then do as above - gurt big chains and a ground anchor.

Rather than a ground anchor, I noose lock cables over the joists and down to the bikes. Sold Secure Gold for insurance. I have the same garage door deadbolts, but physically disable the hinges from the inside with timber.

A really effective cheap way of securing an up and over door (if you have another entrance) is to drill a hole towards the bottom of the side frame rails and put a padlock through on both sides, the door will only open a few inches. I know, as I locked myself out and there was no way I could get in that way.

Almax lock and chain as others have recommended, best ratings & test results by far but if a up & over door be very carefull as the scroats can open them very easily so get drilling & bolting it down no half measures there my friend.

Cheers

Just be aware that Almax are not Sold Secure rated. Yes, they mention it on their site, but Sold Secure have no record. I'd assume this would give an insurance company a reason not to pay out if they specified, like mine do, that you must use a Sold Secure Gold lock.
