my daughter is taller than I am at 5'10 and growing.

She can still ride a medium (18" or so) frame, but prefers those with a longer-ish reach, I don't think she would fit a large (yet anyway). But I'm aware frame sizing / fit is make specific.

She loves my Full sussers, but she doesn't need a gnarly 160mm travel FS, she would like one - but that's not the point. She'd also like one / two of my bikes, but that's not going to happen either. I did have a Cotic BFe frame to build up, but she's dead set on a FS.

I've a ton of spares, so can build something up (if I had to), but what's a good FS XC orientated bike - that won't break the bank ? I'm only looking at secondhand, just in case she grows much more. Budget is tighter than a tight thing, at about a grand for a full bike, less for a frame.

For reference, she's currently using my El Guapo 26", which doesn't fit her too well.

Giant Trance 29er from 2018 onwards. I've bought a Giant Trance 2 recently. Always been a bit of a bike snob but the Trance is a superb bike. Far more capable than the 115mm of rear travel would suggest. Paid £1400 for the full bike. Pedals superbly well with the shock in the open position as well and I'm noticing my times round routes have increased quite considerably.

Ooh, good to hear. I've just bought a 2020 Trance 2 for the kids. I thought it would be good for the bumbling XC kid, but was a bit apprehensive how it would work for the jumpy one in two years time.

OP my kid currently has an Anthem 27.5 from around 2018. AFAICS it is pretty much the same as the Trance that is mentioned above ( apart from having smaller wheels)
I'd highly recommend the 27.5 Anthem
( But not the 29er Anthem for what you want)

I already did 🙂 that's how she got the el G. Previously got her a lovely rare female Spesh Stuntjumper dripping in XTR from pinkbike that she grew out of in what felt like 6 months. Thankfully a friends daughter now has that.

That’s what I did when my son got big enough to ride my full suss.

Instant justification for a new bike for me.

She’d also like one / two of my bikes, but that’s not going to happen either.

So she's riding a bike too small for her because you don't want to let her ride one of yours?

There's a second hand Bird Aeris 145 frame in medium for £750 in the classifieds.

I gather that it's not really XC but it sounds like she wouldn't say no to something a bit burlier.

I have one of the later Anthem 27.5 models, with the 130mm fork and 110mm rear travel. Absolutely perfect bike for what you describe. People keep telling me that it's the wrong wheelsize for XC but I've bagged a couple of local KOMs on it so can't be that slow.
