Planning a mid week ride with a stop in Bath but I don't know a good place that we can have a beer and some food with our bikes. Can anyone suggest a central location that would suit? I'm thinking large garden and not too smart in case we're muddy etc.
thanks!
Depends where you're coming from/going to. There's The Hop Pole at one end, the George at the other. In the centre there's the Pig and Fiddle.
I think there's a nice one in Widcombe but I forget the name of it.
The ram in Widcombe, depends where you are riding really- the George is close to some of the best stuff
Hop Pole is good - nice garden with sheff stands. Back entrance off the riverside path for bikes.
The George in Bathampton is very pretty, but the service is glacial, and on a nice weekend you'll die of starvation before the kitchen serves up your food.
The Boater by Pultney Bridge is v central and has an outside area with tables etc and a good view, but its not much to shout about.
Thanks for the suggestions - we're planning to enter from the North (down from the race course) and back out to brizl on the bike path.
Sounds like the Hop Pole is where it will be at.
Bathampton Mill (1/2 mile down the road from George)
It's not central, but even if you go inside for beer (there's a massive garden) you can park the bikes so you can see them from the bar.
There's no too many bars in the middle with decent gardens. If you want to be more central though, Malborough Tavern would do well
As another thought, the pub a Monkton Farliegh is about a mile from Sally in the woods and serves the best burger I've found - proper big ride size as well!
Hop Pole is a good bet. I'd also consider The Dolphin by the canal / river, bang on for where your coming from / going to.
Its a shame that The Boathouse is shut at the moment.
Thinking about it, I would also consider the Marlborough Tavern.
There is also one at the top of Lansdown, cant think what its called but has great views from the garden. Ah, Hare & Hounds, thanks google maps.

In that case, the Hare & Hounds on Lansdown has a great garden and good views out over the City. Recently got a new chef, used to be a bit chain-y, might be better now. But the view is good.
Great minds eh?
The Dolphin is right by the river, but the 'garden' is rubbish.
It's easy to miss the entrance to the Hop Pole from the riverside - it's basically an overgrown alleyway.
Once you do find it though, if the gate is locked then they were happy to unlock it and serve us lots of really nice food. ๐
I've been to a pub with a bath in the garden. And a mattress.
excellent knowledge chaps
