Hi

Ive kind of drifted more to the road scene recently and have a group of friends Im embarrassed to say I enjoy meeting up with in lycra and waxing each others legs, sometimes we even ride our bikes too......

We compete in time trials and one or two race "proper" but the thing that puts most of us off this is the randomness of being taken out by another novice in a bunch sprint and ending up in A and E

After talking about Mountain Mayhem this weekend, which we have obviously missed, we've now decided to enter a MTB race but arent sure whats about

It needs to be in the UK, but anywhere handy for a weekend away is good - one of us does the IoM End to End each year which is an option but we'd rather keep it to a strict Sat/Sun, plus I think thats full for September

What would you recommend then STW for a challenge?
Endurance type events over a few hours or more preferable to short sprints where our own lack of bike craft (obvs not mine) might be a liability to others as described above

Cheers

Brighton Big Dog on 15th August? 6 hours solo. I'm entered in a team again this year. Plenty of places to stay nearby and usually a good crack.

Dear Road CC - I've gravitated towards mtb. Me and my mates enter the odd endurance race but find that fitter roady types overtake us on the fire roads before holding us up on the singletrack. Can you think of........

Sorry couldn't resist that! Torq in your Sleep is a great event on the August BH. Also Erlestoke 12 which has a 6hr. FWIW what you just talked about is why I haven't tried road racing.

I've never done it, and I think it is sold out for this year but the Bontrager 2412 is meant to be amazing if you want an endurance type race and can be done in teams

lol@adsh

We have had 2 broken collar bones this season so far in a pretty small group of mates - one numpty training on black ice and another brought down by a 17y old riding a 5k bike in a CAT4 race

Thanks for the ideas so far

Keep 'em coming

The gorrick torq torq, or the erlstoke 12. Raced both last year and love both....
Did the Bristol bike fest a few weeks ago so probably not what you are after and that was great too...

10 at kirroughtree? It's under new management but they seem to be basically following the old template

If you want to try something different, come up and do the dudes of hazard enduro at kinlochleven. Presuming they get permission to run it, anyway. Fantastic race- brilliant and challenging riding, completely stupid time of year, somehow it just works.

Brighton Big Dog is great.
Torq 12:12 on August bank holiday is a fab event.
Bontrager 24:12 is also supposed to be good.

I shall be at all of them.
