Here's the issue:
At the moment i have a maxxis minion DHR II EXO 3c on the rear and it feels very slow and draggy and obviously pretty grippy. It's on a 160mm travel bike.
I'm looking for something to replace it with but cant really find anything suitable.
2015 nobby nic seems a bit fragile
Specialized purgatory - same as above with flimsy sidewalls
mavic rear tyre is just rubbish
continental dont seem to make a suitable tyre.
So does anyone have any other suggestions? it needs to be a relativley sturdy, lightish tyre - something similar to whats on there now but less draggy. should i just buy the non 3C version of the DHR?
thanks!
Purg grid doesn't have flimsy sidewalls. Good tyre, though I'm now onto a smorgasbord on the back, with good results so far.
should i just buy the non 3C version of the DHR?
Well I don't find mine draggy (60a), but one man's meat...
Purgatory Grid holds up OK as nobeer says. Rolls good enough too.
The specialized grid tyres are just as tough(if not tougher) then Maxxis exos in my experience. I quite like the ground control on the rear for a fast rolling tyre but surprisingly grippy.
Why not try the non 3C DHR 2 exo. I've had one on the rear with the 3C version up front for a while and am pretty impressed so far.
Just gone for conti mountain king 2 for the rear, seems decent enough. Also pretty reasonable as well.
I've just changed my 2.3" DHR2 (non-3C) to a 2.25" Crossmark. Still got plenty of grip but it rolls way faster..
The non-3C DHR2 is less draggy than the 3C (I've run both on the back)
All on a 170mm FS.
What's wrong with the Mavic roam?
It's a bloody hilarious rear tyre 😀
Specialized Slaughter. Rolls well and drifts all over the place when it is loose and you get a bit keen with the rear brake. Great fun.
I just swapped an ardent exo rear to an HRII 3C EXO. I'm quite surprised how well it rolls.
Have you considered a Minion DHF on the rear?
An EXO one with a harder compound should give you some reliable sidewalls and a bit faster rolling.
Minion DHF front and rear is one of my favourite tyre combinations for the riding one would do on a 160mm bike.
Thanks guys,
I think I'm going to try a purgatory grid in the back.
