[Closed] rear shock leaking air from valve after pumping up

Is there hope when this happens to save a shock? Anyone know if this is a warning sign of the shock being broken or if it's common and all I need is a new valve stem. I haven't got a core remover but would a bike shop be able to help?

Probably just needs tightening (the valve core that is).

What Benpinnick says. Whip out the valve core, make sure its clean and then pop it back in.

Can you actually hear the air leaking out of the valve?

Or are you by any chance pumping the shock up to a certain pressure then removing the shock pump and then screwing the pump back on and reading a lower pressure?

Because then the air escapes from the shock back into the pump and the pressure gauge shows a lower reading.

I only mention this because people used to do this all the time when I worked in a shop.

Can hear it hissing away out of the pin/valve in one go after a 2mins it's stopped and hardly any air left. If I pump it up and put the cap on it actually stops but imagine it would only be a matter of time maybe an hour before it would slowly leak out as I think those caps are only really dust caps and not sealed but it sure does stop the hiss sound.

Think I'll go to Halfords and buy a £4 core remover tightener tool (or can I just tighten it with my fingers?) rather than bother a bike shop again. Sounds like you just turn anti-clockwise to un-do and clockwise to tighten?

If you can wait, try eBay, I got a core tool and 20 new cores for a couple of quid!

Thanks everyone. I got the stans no tubes valve core remover tool and replaced the core with a conti' inner tube one and it seems to have stopped the leak. Very good news, wish all shock issues were as easy as this.
