9 speed XTR shifter and 9 speed XTR rear mech - I can only adjust the cable tension to reach either gears 1-8 or 2-9 - have backed off the limit screws on the mech altogether - there are 8 clicks on the shifter when the cable is disconnected
Any ideas please?

9s has 8 clicks - 8 + the gear you start in

Also check that the hangers not been Twunked.
