Hello
So my Novatec rear hub, had giving some ping-ping sounds lately... and yesterday, it went bust, as when i try to ride it, just the least amount of pressure on the pedals, the freehub just turns around and not picking up speed... anyway to fix it ? new frehub, warranty?
-it wheel is only 1 month old.
Thanks
If it's a month old, get it warrantied.
I'd then sell it and get something more reliable and not made out of soft cheese.
If it's like the Novatec I had then you'll need an 11mm hex key to get the free hub off. From what you've described it sounds like the ratchet ring has failed in some way, or the pawls/springs have failed. You'd need to get it apart to find out what's wrong first but, as first point, if it's only a month old get it warrantied.
what he said ^^ re: warranty
depending on the hub in question, it may be a case of popping off the end caps and sliding the freehub off the axle to have a look.
Novatec themselves are actually pretty decent to deal with. I've been using their front and rear hubs for a while, and have found them to be no less reliable than my old hopes (the rears are a tiny bit more fragile though).
Dont strip the freehub down, bits will go everywhere and you may have trouble getting it all back together, especially if you haven't stripped one down before
I would just remove your cassette and contact where you bought the wheels from and explain the situation and they will probably ask you to return the wheel to be fixed or replaced
Once fixed/replaced sell them on and buy something better, ive had a few Novatec hubs over the years and they never seem to last, DT Swiss (240 or 350) have been spot on for me along with Hope Pro4 and RS4 hubs
My Arkose Novatec freehub failed after a similar time. When I took it off there was water and muck in the pawls. Since giving it a good clean and making sure the seal is seated correctly it has been ok although I don't have a lot of faith in it as it started giving playing up 5 days into a 7 day trip.
