I tried to remove the freehub but I couldn't loosen the nuts on the axle as they where very, very tight, and I don't wan't to mess it up.

I assume that if they carry this brand they should be able to fix it, but given the bad rep their mechanics have I'm a bit hesitant.

Halfords guys seem to vary tremendously.ย  I have meet some that are good mechanics and some that should not be allowed near a spanner.ย  Its a gamble IMO

Have you got decent tools?ย  Decent tools should allow you to remove the nuts Or take it to an proper bike shopย

Yeah Halfords is a lucky dip, some shops are great, some terrible.ย

Freehub in my carrera broke, I went in to see about a replacement, they hemmed and hawed and poked the stock database a bit and said "not sure we can get a freehub, we'll have to get you a wheel" then thought about that a bit more and went and pulled a new one off a display bike and said "here just have this". What I'd maybe lost in terms of super knowledgableness, I gained back in "really not giving a shit", ideal.
