what's a realastic budget for everything minus frame and fork for a mid range build for general CX / Touring bike duties. Looking at a Salsa Vaya frame.

Yeah tricross sport looks ok but not sure about brakes; seems to be some reports of bad judder here.

Spesh reckon they've 'cracked' the front brake judder issue with a little widget that fits to the fork as part of the cable hanger.

claud buttler touring bike off here - £110

More robust wheelset - £free (swaped with another, racier, 6 speed bike)

Bar tape - £6

Brake blocks - £12 (including spares)

Ortlieb panniers x 4 and lowrider rack - £120

Rear topeak alloy rack - £FREE off scrapped commuter bike

Still need;
Replace the biopace chainrings
Indexed 6 speed shifters that look nice, got a choice of polished SR non indexed or boring shimano indexed ones
Saddle, the middlemoor one looks good, and could be very comfortable, but isn't suiting me particularly well.
