Stop it. I can not stress this enough. That is the main message to take away from this [s]rant[/s] open letter. You clearly are ten years old or have some kind of mental retardation, if that is the case I apologise for the following.
I am of course not blameless in this situation and I accept that. I went through a bomb hole I have ridden for the last year and a half only to find at 2foot crater exactly where my front wheel should have been on the blind exit. If I had any inclination anyone would be stupid enough to dig a hole there for the "jump" you constructed I would have looked before I leapt. Clearly I give the other residents of Glasgow too much credit.
In my ensuing rage I de constructed your "jumps". And am only too happy to do it again if you would like to build them again. If you do please look at the obvious route that is in existence and dig anywhere else. You are morons of the highest order.
Thank you to the three guys on bikes who stopped to watch me tumble down the hill and make sure I was OK. Much appreciated.
For your viewing pleasure

The picture does me no justice here, however the exit is near vertical which you can not help but be spat out of.
is that the grave for when you go over the jump?
Shallow Grave...
Haha, looks like they weren't expecting it to be that difficult!
rabbits on Bucky I reckon 😆
hilarious. how are them twigs holding all that earth on the kicker??
3/10 for the rant, all spelt correctly, no irrational use of capitals and no use of incorrectly spelt swearing to get around the swear filter lose you points. The 3 point you do get are for the use of photographic evidence and red lines, obviously put on with a bit of anger.
Oh, and learn to ride around a small hole 😆
peachos - Memberhilarious. how are them twigs holding all that earth on the kicker??
One of the twigs was a small tree which was cut through. It looked to me like they had put a little effort in. Kind of like when your kids work really hard a washing your car with rocks.

Trust me i would have ridden around it if i could have seen it coming but if you read what i say it is a blind bomb hole. And 3/10 come on that is worth about 7 at least. I put a full ten minutes into that, got to be twice the effort those idiots put into their jumps 😛
Edit: hold on which way is your scale going here?
I agree. It pisses me off massively when you find a favourite line ruined. Even when the ****s have clearly spent hours carefully crafting a tank-proof jump, if it kills a natural line GAAAHHHH!!!
The line into their jump makes little sense to me as well...
I do love the big pit dug right on the existing trail though. Makes a dull ride far more exciting I bet...
In my ensuing rage I de constructed your "jumps".
If you had video footage, I'd go as high as 8/10 😉
That rips my knitting, on my local trails too.
Wee shites.
As I'm too old for big air, I shall forthwith be indulging in a Cathkin Braes jump demolition spree in sympathy 😯
Crap constructed like that is never good MTB PR. What about the trails for the Commonwealth games anyhow? When are they being waymarked/built?
And do the wee laddies from Castlemilk hang about on STW?
2/10

Trust me I went cave man on them. It went something like " RRRRAAAAHHH JOHN SMASH! JOHN SMASH! SWEAR SWEAR SWEAR...hows my bike...OK I guess...RAAAHHHHHH"

Yeah that did cross my mind but getting it off your chest is all in the healing process. My girlfriend has lost al sympathy for me so now I am boring you lot 🙂
>As I'm too old for big air, I shall forthwith be indulging in a Cathkin Braes jump demolition spree in sympathy ,
Wont work - you could always try talking to them 😉
Isn't Cathkin Braes where the Commonwealth Games XC course is going to be built. My guess is the Ned - Chav - trailfairies are getting ready for the main event.
Lucky they hadnt installed the bamboo spikes yet !
Sure they weren't lurking in the bushes ready to ride off with your wheels?
Ill probably get the spikes next seing as i have destroyed their rad jumps 😈
one of those little 'scene of crimes' body outlines of where you landed afterwards would have upped ths score a bit, I reckon.
I always want to apologise to walkers when I ride past stuff like that;
'It wasn't me and I don't really approve, sorry'
Anyone got a map or GPS route for Cathkin?

pah
use of WTF has gotta count for summut? surely
OP - thank you for the effort in the pic - it's had me spluttering into my tea 😆
Kind of like when your kids work really hard a washing your car with rocks.
You get 7/10 from me just for that one line!
Meh, kids building jumps. I did the same when I was younger*, admittedly with a bit more thought about where we did the excavations 😛
*4 years ago, I'm a youngun.

I don't have a GPS route for it, but I could draw you a pretty picture of a route if you want?

I just received one of these in the post this morning, and a folding saw, for 'tidying up' local trails - £22.99 incl. free delivery. Only ordered Thursday evening, too.
Just ride the jump you big girl.
Househusband, I wouldnt expect your saw to last longer than the delivery time. My experience with Gerber saws was not good.
Bahco Laplanders are brilliant.
mtbing should be about riding what nature put in front of you not digging it up or following the herd to trail centres with all there nice idiot proof waymarking. Then again if it makes you happy it leaves the hills free for the rest of us a bit like the Pennine way leaves the rest of Britain free for those who want to maske our own walks up
On the eleventh dash on your diagram you seem to make an abrupt change in direction? was this intentional or just to prove that , there is indeed, a hole in the ground there?
ah jim ladd , x marks the spot.
x
Why not use the earth from their jump to build a jump over the hole?

What utter clap trap, mtbing is what ever you want it to be !!!
MickyMick get off yout lazy ar*e and go ride it. I'll come with you and GPS it for you.Anyone got a map or GPS route for Cathkin?
Either that or look here and you will find a number of routes. It's one of those routes you can make as long or as short as you want
Do you own the land?
Spoiling "your line" so you thrashed the jump.. yeah good one.
Sometimes I wonder... At least the kids are getting out in the woods n making jumps and getting some exercise like we used to as kids rather than loitering round the street corners causing trouble.
Just adjust your line, or learn to jump but don't go destroying stuff, christ you need to rely on youungsters building jumps, most of the people on here are far to old and have far to many after work commitments to spend their evenings in a wood with a shovel.
Looking at the picture, that's the kind of thing my 9yo son would build when he is dressed up in combats & re-creating Helmand Province - to the left you've got a sangar, to the right a foxhole.
Agree it has spoilt your trail, but he wouldn't spot that track coming down or even think about the consequences of digging a bloody big hole in the middle of a track.
>Househusband, I wouldnt expect your saw to last longer than the delivery time. My experience with Gerber saws was not good. >
I wouldnt expect his shovel to last longer than his saw 😉 That design is really weak arond the rivetted plate - just watch you dont use it for anything other than loose soil.
Aldi do a very respectable folding saw for £2.99
I'll happily resurrect this thread.
There is a fine line in the 'Braes where two jumps have appeared in the last few weeks. The first ruins the flow for me, but I'm thinking live and let live as you can bypass it and keep some pace.
The second is utterly crap. Slight right hander, hemmed in by vegetation, and two piles of dirt up against two logs. A take of ramp and a landing ramp. Several problems.
1) The construction quality is crap. I rode it about four times this morning doing loops and it was falling apart.
2) It ruins the flow because it is in a stupid place. You need to see it to understand. It is before a good chicane that you have to straightline to use the jump properly.
3) It isn't rollable for mere mortals and there is no chicken run.
4) There is a tree on the left edge of the landing zone.
Now, if I carried a shovel about I could have fixed the jump by infilling the gap between the launch and landing ramps. That would have fixed 1 and 3 above and made it tolerable.
But as I don't carry a shovel I removed the (moving) logs and the soft earth collapsed, so its a bit pathetic now. I'm not sorry. Try harder next time, more thought and better construction please.
Any more of this shoddy workmanship and the phantom jump modifier shall strike again.
P.S. Waderider isn't my real name.......
I actually bumpt into the guy building them, seemed like a nice enough guy. I tried to explain, much like you pointed out, the flow and the run was going to be ruined but he wasn't to interested. He or someone has also cut a new small berm through the switchback just ten meters after that or so which makes it look crap. It was an akward routey off camber natural sort of thing - beautiful

I would start stalking him until it stops.
