Bit bored, bit raining and thinking "What fast free-flowing 29er FS should i go for"..

Was just debating really if a 29er FS would suit better for a few things, possibly even XC racing. However i have a few main requirements within the spec.

Tapered headset, 120-130mm travel, standard threaded BB, compatible back end.

The T-129 fit all of them apart from the compatible back end, which being a 142x12 i need to buy adapters for, but i found out you can get them for the El Guapo hubs i have from On-one, so it's not the deal breaker i once thought it was.
I'm trying to think what bits i'd need from the spares box and what i'd need to buy but the only thing i can think of that i'm missing are a set of black bars (i think i have white ones that would look ugly) along with maybe a decent size/length stem. The rest, i have lying round in the spares box, from brakes to chainsets, seatposts to clamps etc... All in there.

We'll see if the offer is accepted. But it's certainly an idea.

I'm toying with a T129 at some point. I will need a new rear hub though.

Is it the one on eBay? I think it's a STWer selling it..

There's 2 on there. 1 is nicer and £650, the other is a bit tatty in the paint department but only £400. I offered £300.

I'm sure that's the one. Can't find it now but I'm sure it was a bit cheaper on here. Same username iirc.

If that falls through I've got a Turner Sultan for sale - if it's a frame you're looking for?
Fits your criteria

I have a Canyon spectral 29er frame lying unloved, all new bearings, even headset and BB, I really need to get my finger out and sell it, I bloody hate selling stuff though!

T129 SCR Works '15 is still the best bike I've ever owned. It's a great all rounder; XC rides (I did the 100km Scott Marathon from Wantage), Trail centers (inc. Blacks at BPW), enduros and general trail riding up the ridgeway and messing about in the woods.

With your height and riding, I think it'll suit you better than the T130. Go for it. They hold their value too, so shifting it won't be a problem if it doesn't work out.

What bar width are you after? I might have a set you can have for free.

I certainly don't expect it to replace the T-130. That's the BPW/Afan/Swinley bike.... I was thinking more along the lines of like you say, the Scott Marathon events (Although this years Wantage one once again clashes as i'm in Germany on the KTM). But also things like the White Roads and the SDW, may be nicer on the T-129.

Whether i'd try the T-129 for an XC event on Southern XC, i don't know... possibly...

Bars.... Well, teh ones i bought from you last time off the Whyte are perfect... they're what i'm ideally looking for 🙂

My offers on the frame at £250 and £300 have been declined... So i'm not sure whether or not i'll stick in a higher one.

I swapped to a T130 because I wanted more maneuverability and playfulness of the smaller wheels for enduros and bike parks. I figured I had the HT for the more mundane riding. In reality, there wasn't much in it. The geometry on the T129 was as good as the T130, with the added 29er rollover, speed & stability benefits. So it felt like a step down in many ways. I was surprised as I'm only 173cm (5'8''ish). I went back to a T129.. and then bought a house, so it had to go temporarily.

Bars- will have a look this week for you. Think they might be wider, but can be cut down.

The T-129 is a great bike.
You could also look for a Salsa Horsethief - the MK1 frames are pretty cheap these days and it is also a great bike.

HF comes with a PF BB though i'd bet... If i was going to go for a Salsa it would be the Fish.

I don't suppose you'd want a 2017 T-129S Frame & Shock? It's boost rear so i don't know if that's a problem but I was only wanting £350-400 for it. It's pretty immaculate, I think I've got a few other bits for it still which i could throw in as well (Bars, grips, possibly stem if i can find it) and the frame still has the headset installed with all bearings, spacers etc.

Located Farnham, Surrey though and i'd rather not post.

Need to check if I can easily boost my rear or not.

But while I'm thinking, would I need a boost crankset too?

Ideally you need a boost crank. It depends what you run- might just be a chainring change to boost.
You could get away with normal cranks if there's chainring clearance with the chainstay, though you may get a poor chainline. Sadly you won't know until you try though. So the answer is maybe..

Race Face Ride crankset. Usually in a HT2 type BB. Single ring so couldn't mount in other places on spider etc

Hmmmm. Seems I'd need a new rear wheel too according to O-O. Hub wouldn't work.

On that note, I'm out of the later version sorry.

Yeah, I see it's a fixed spider, not the cinch type, so you're stuck with non-boost with that crankset.

Might work, but if not then it's a new crankset.

Edit: Okay, I think i'm going for it so you can always have a go on mine.
