Hilarious, 9am, RATM live, how could they not forsee that they would sing the whole song, complete with "F*ck you I won't do what you tell me!" Queue hasty intervention by embarrassed presenter but it was so obvious it was going to happen. Radio Gold! 😀

Teehee! The performance sounds a bit ropey though.

Hmmm, they "asked" them not to do it and they did it anyway...

Did they not listen to the lyrics first and wonder if RATM might, just might, not do what they're told?

good lads.

I can imagine the production meeting for 5 live...

"lets get a band on called rage against the machine, who's most famous song centres around a lyric - **** you I won't do what you tell me - and then we'll tell them not to sing that bit. No, I'm sure they'll do exactly what they're told"

actually, that has inspired me to buy the record now...

And I didn't even listen to them first time round, when I was 15 - I blame having a girlfriend for my lack of angst. I still didn't tidy my bedroom though.

ho ho.

I thought the same thing the other day as I was sat in my Vectra in a shirt and tie tapping my fingers to "Anarchy In The UK".

Great.
I'm having my own, walkman headphone enabled, secret rebellion against the machine right here at my desk. Yeah man.

Will have to finish shortly though, have a conference call due.

Thats funny, seriously surely they must have known what was going to happen.
Is it me or are all the media giving the campaign a hell of a lot of coverage. Backlash against X factor?

I'm going to stop soon, to go to the staff room for a cup of tea.

All my students seem to like the X-Factor song. Youth of today, etc.

Love it - just listened to the Radio 5 clip.
The Bass player Tim Commerford (played in Audio Slave also) is an obsessive mountain biker - is he an STW subscriber? One of his regular riding buddies is Hans Rey.

Amazon.

36000 sales ahead of the X-factor one at the end of yesterday, apparently.

i thought it had to be priced above a certain amount to count?

There's been a lot of confusion over it. Amazon sell it for 29p (exactly what they charge for the X Factor song) at a losst. They paid enough for it to count, so it counts.

Didn't they thank santa cruz and shimano in an album booklet once?

They're my running music choice, love 'em.

I saw RATM last year at T in the Park. It was the most violent pit I have ever been in. Awesome! I too missed them 1st time round but have done the download and hope they do actually break Mr Cowell's monopoly. But wait, he's on the same record label so it's a win win for him. Apparently he earns 176k an hour 😯

In the inlay for the renegades album (great covers album) the list "comrades" as: 20mm front hubs, Hydraulic brakes, Intense mountain bikes, Santa cruz heckler, Schwinn bikes, SPD's, XTR and Bruce Springsteen, so you know they're good people!

I have a vague recollection of the original non-radio edit version being played in full on the radio 1 chart show back when this was in the charts originally.

Bruno Brookes got in rather a lot of trouble. Think he was too drunk to realise!

Aye, concur with the pits being the most violent I've been in (saw them at Leeds on my birthday). Got the living shit kicked out of me, and a good number of head butts. It was wonderful

It was hilarious, was amazed it went on as long as it did before they realised they had sworn about four times. It's interesting how much effort BBC Radio 5 is putting into the opposition to ITV's X factor contestant.

Ok, now i'm tempted to buy it.
Even though it really should've been something NEW and BRITISH!

Are we sure it's chart position won't peak too early??

I love his wheels - removed extraneous letters from 'Bontrager' to spell 'rage', for those amongst you who are unobservant or weren't bothered.

God i hope it's number 1!

Radio 1's Zane Lowe has been playing this at the start of his evening show lately too which has helped rasie awareness.

He also played the album in full a few months ago, it was great to hear it in full and unedited after all these years.

Isn't 5 Live the epitomy of Middle England though (along with Radio 4)? So actually, all it will do is upset a lot of pompous middle-aged middle class types?

Never knew about the mtb link though - will have to check out my Renegades album when I get home 😀

Apparently its sold 165,000 to Joe McElderry's 110,000 currently, hopefully it's not peaked too soon, would be awesome to see!

Who really cares which song is at the top of "The Hit Parade"? ie. which song has taken in most money this week

what is this? 1958? the chart has always been a marketing exercise!

Is it really going to get-one-over on the very wealthy Simon Cowell? -who probably makes more dosh from the vacuous, manufactured drama of his flashy Karaoke contest on TV than producing cheesy cover versions.

Although I happen to think that X-Factor is total sh*te, apparently around 20 million people watched it last week.

20 million being approximately 1/3 of the UK population.... Maybe a substantial proportion of public opinion is with Mr Cowell?

Doubt he cares if he misses it anyway and I also wonder how much extra publicity this is giving the little camp geordie.
