I am placing a big order for an Alps trip to Les Arcs in July.

I will be riding my enduro (6 inch/ 27.5 wheel) bike and looking for some big volume tubeless tyres with good sidewall protection.

Thinking either the:
- Magic Mary/Hands dampf 2.35 in the trailstar compound
or
- Maxxis High Roller II 2.4 in 3C Exo for front and rear

Any got any other suggestions/recommendations/opinions?

DHF DHR 2.3, always chuck these on when gravity is involved
If it was wet etc then Magic Mary but its a slow roller
HR front and HD rear very good around all year tyres

Why restrict yourself to CRC? Alltricks/ACycles have a good selection and usually a fair bit cheaper than anywhere else.

27.5" x 2.5" DHF Super tacky, dual ply £30 each from Alltricks

Just whack a pair of those on, job - jobbed

Id steer clear super tacky - they may last the week. The area your going is rocky and hard pack dirt on main trails.

My normal tyre are minions, for the alps this year I'll be running WTB's
Convict front vigilante rear, I've been really impressed by wtbs "tough" tyres recently

I have the same feeling about matching brands!.

Seriously though, the last consideration I have of a tyre is the brand, tread, compound, sidewall etc, brand is down even further than weight.

IMO you should be focussing on carcass just as much as tread pattern if you want to spend your time riding rather than fixing flats.

Maxxis Doubledown, Schwalbe Supergravity, Specialized Grid or WTB's Tough carcasses are all good. IMO, Maxxis EXO isn't even tough enough for the Peak or Lake Districts, let alone the Alps.

Ours are already packed for our trip next week. Butcher/Purgatory grids on the bikes and in the camper. Not had any problems using them in the past. Some good deals to be had on them if you shop arround.

Alltricks seem to have an odd translation programme.

When they describe a tyre as TubeType do we think they mean tubeless ready?

Minion, minion, minion.

Perfect for Les Arcs. Had them the last five years out there - never had a problem.

As others have said, ideally you want double down/super gravity for the alps.

depends on so many variables it's impossible ti make generalisations like that.

I'm still happy with Vigilante front Trail Boss back although I ran Vigs at both ends through winter. High Grip/ Tough front, Fast/Tough rear.

They're an order of toughness (and weight) up from Schwalbe snakeskin. They're more like SuperGravity (double skin walls, 1.5skin tread). They really are excellent tyres. 🙂
