Installing my new V2s. and the issue that i have is that when i pump the brakes to bring the pistons out to meet the disk, they dont seem to leave much gap , so the disc seems to constantly be touching the pads.

I hope i am explaining myself okay.

I pull the lever , the pads hit the disk, but only very marginally retract, i would expect them to go further back from the disk, maybe 1mm each side, so that the wheel can freely spin, but they only marginally retract so that they are almost always in contact.

Rambling over

Any ideas?

Thats how they do it. does the wheel rub? is it both sides?

wheel out and work the pistons in and out a few times they might just be a bit sticky but may various hopes (not v2s) are a well under a mm clearance each side.
You have centred them properly? Not by pulling the brake on with the bolts loose and tightening the bolts but firstly centre the caliper than the pistons separately once the caliper is centred according to the instructions on the Hope site

yeah i have watched the video on the ope site, i think the thing that is throwing me is that when the levers are not being pulled the gap that the pad retracts from the disk is very very small i:e nothing???

Yep, that's about right, they assemble them with greased seals and pistons, so the pistons aren't gripped by the seals and retracted when you release them. It gives you that nice short lever travel when new, but will improve (or get worse, depending on your wiewpoint)as it gets a bit dry and dirty.

Just been for a quick ride and the "rubbing"seems to have got better, i am sure a muddy wet ride will get them sorted.

V2 AWESOME stopping power !!!

My V2's now 3 yrs old and still have less than 0.5mm clearance each side of the disk, no rubbing and still short lever throw from off to retina detatching stoppyness 😀

Spoke to hope this morning (great service as always) they confirmed that the brakes just need bedding in.
