I've got to go to Doncaster tomorrow (from Cardiff), and I was hoping to take my bike and get a quick 2 hour spin in along the way. Some kind of trail centre or other compact location would be nice. I don't want to get stuck into maps and big hill rides since I really only want to spend a couple of hours.

Any suggestions?

Derby: head for John Thompson Inn, Ingleby, (just south of derby) and explore the Robins wood, Repton Scrubs and Foremark area, some singletrack, a few climbs, enough to fill a few hours

Sheffield: Start at hunters bar roundabout, head through the parks, up porter colough, over to stanage, back up the road to blaka moor, down blaka to dore, then back to hunters bar

Cannock: trail center, just north of birmingham, signposted route is 50-min to an hour, 2 or three laps will get you sewaty and hitting 95% of the corners off the brakes.

I'm going to be popping up to Sherwood Pines tomorrow and would happily show you around some of the better singletrack.

Oh yeah, Cannock - forgot about that. I've done it before but it'd be good for a couple of fast laps ๐Ÿ™‚

Keep em coming tho, ta.

Malverns?

Sheffield - how about Wharncliffe? Compact and challenging, wrong side of Sheffield really though for Doncaster....

mmmm, not unless you want to ride the fire roads, Wharncliffe is saturated, even 'wetscreams' were little use today on the downhill tracks.

Agree with Wharncliffe - up there at weekend before there had been much rain, and lots of sections were very sketchy.

I'd go with Sherwood Pines, the new trail, which is 10 miles long is quite good, and if you use your imagination you can make it even better by linking up secret bits of singletrack ๐Ÿ™‚
