Been yonks since I've ridden there, doing a very long NCN and these are included.
Is the surface still hardpack chalk/gravel and is it generally smooth or rutted? Dry ? Might change the route if it's horrible.

yes, entirely. a cx would be ideal. all smooth with bits of gravel.
