I have 2 x sets of 5.1 hope wheels with the DT swiss plastic rim strip and std maxxis tyres with stans milk.

They have been great with no problems

I converted my mavic 719D rims using the ghetto (schwalbe tube) method and maxxis crossmark tyres.

After binning it at Penmachno last week but one on the ghetto set up and ater the crash noticing that the tyre had split and deflated, I have been wondering if it 'burped' and that is what caused the front to let go.

I've noticed the DT swiss plastic strips have a 'lump' or raised portion that will sit about 2mm below the bead of the rim moulded into them. Effectively making a lower bead.

will this be for sealing or to stop 'burping'? or both?

and do stans kits have this moulded thicker portion on them?

Ta

Dave

Bit of both IME. I've 5.1's with the DT kit and they seal and hold air well.

No they don't really - which makes mine harder to get tyres to seal initially. I've had burpy problems with mavic/stans/maxxis - happened last night, but it held a seal of sorts and re-inflated. LUST tyres are certainly better.

Hey Dave glad you're getting on ok with the strips

The only burping i had was when using too low a pressure, it was quite noticeable as the tyre became almost flat on a downhill section at Afan.

Stans strips do have a moulded shape and generally if set up correctly will sit below the Rim lip, whereas of course the Ghetto method sits above and on the edge of the rim.

I've got bikes fitted with Ghetto and Stans and I much prefer the Stans strips, burping i think is more down to lower pressures and rough/rocky terrain though.

B-_good_effort why?

The ghetto method i have used is this one

it has the tube sitting under the bead which is unlike some methods which fold OVER the bead and then are cut off once the tyre is fitted and inflated.

I was just wondering if this made it more prone to burping
