What lightweight waterproof jackets do you carry on your bike or shoved in your jersey pocket?

I've got some mtb ones but they are a bit big and bulky.

Montane Featherlite Velo, no issue to fit in a back pocket, really light and pretty darn great when you wear it too. Probably the most breathable jacket of that nature that I've worn on a bike. Also comes in colours other than bright blue or flourescent yellow.

I don't really- in winter I wear a Gore Windstopper which isn't really waterproof but close enough, and the rest of the time I just have a windproof/showerproof jacket or gilet in my pocket and don't go out when it's pi$$ing down!

Montane but only if it's very cold and wet don't bother otherwise.

What MrSalmon said +1

BTW - Someone once asked Sean Kelly about training in the rain. Him being from Ireland where it's often wet. He said that he goes out for a couple of hours no matter what, then he stops to see if it's raining. If it is he rides home.

Thanks for the replies.

I've got a full on goretex but it's a bit to much unless it's cold and absolutely pissing it down also use a ss craft windproof under jersey. I just thought it be nice to have something light to carry for those days where it's going to be a mix bag of weather.

Anyone still use newspaper to keep the early chill out?
I do, when warmed up in the bin it goes and no sweat.

An old pearl izumi waterproof packs up to nothing.

yes old git, I've used that trick before. I've even used it when walking around central London (I tend to walk rather than tube it if not riding) when I've been caught out in a cold wind. Those free paper have to be good for something.

When riding I aim for warm and not dry. A light weight gillet + a proper insulation underneath comers me for most wet conditions, some times a soft shell. If I go out an am expecting rain during the ride, the gillet is in the back pocket. This is my default , if out for only a 2 -3 hours.

On a really long all day ride I'll have a big saddle bag and pack a proper water proof gortex sweat bucket though as when tired it's easier to get cold.

I use a (Berghaus)Goretex Paclite jacket in the most extreme conditions. If touring, staying at home or turning back coz it's a wee bit tto damp isn't really an option.

For shorter summer jaunts, I have a De Marchi Ligh Shell jacket....

Easily small enough to put in a jersey pocket and transparent enough that a "race" number shows through.

The Montane Featherlights are not really waterproof and will only handle a light shower. Easily the most breathable option though.

Ligfhtweight windproof in club colours (made by impsport). Wets.after a while, but I don7kt mind being damp so long as I'm not cold.

That'ks for winter (where I might wear up to 3 jerseys). Summer time, I just get wet.

Winter I'll go for an Alp-X, summer I very rarely bother, just get wet!
