Simple question really....Can I use an XTR rear mech such as the M952, M960 or M970 with my 8 speed XTR setup without any issues.

You can use any mech within reason... It's simply a case of "setting the stops". I was running M952 with an 8 spd cass' no problem.
Thanks for the info. Would I be right in thinking that there can be issues when you mix a later XTR Front Mech with 8 speed, due to the size of the cage? or is that ok as well?

You 'may' have some issues with the front mech as its designed to handle a narrower chain. Nothing a quick tweek of the cage wouldn't sort.
No problem. M952 was 8speed anyway.
I'm using an M972 with 8 speed and have gone to a narrower chain as the 8speed rubbed a little when running through the mech. HTH.
sslowpace - what was the brand/model of the narrower chain you swapped to?

952 was Mega9 FYI... I've used M950 (9 speed) with 9 and 8 speed chains/cass and all worked well 😉
Should have said M950 FRONT MECH(8 SPEED) above btw... 😳
