Right ladies and gents I know there are a million threads and I know I am being a bit cheeky but…….
I have recently discovered the quantocks and while i have been finding a few nice ups and downs i still leave feeling like i could of put my time descending to better use with a bit of local knowledge. I find there is nothing worse than doing nice lung busting up to take a rubbish down all the way back to the bottom.

Don’t get me wrong I have found some nice drops but even using the names of descents thrown round around in other threads. I have an uncanny knack of taking the wrong turn back to the bottom

Basically can you guys help put me on the track to the good stuff?

I know it’s asking alot 😉 but …………………………………………………….

Ideally maps with descents marked on them sent to my email would be good!!!!!

But failing that descriptions from land marks i.e. carp parks would be greatly recieved

Happy new year to you all as well!

You'd be much better off tagging along with a local.

I know what you mean on my first visit I was not overly impressed with the Q's

Then I bumped in the Quantocks version of "ming the mercyless" aka Dibbs 😈 and had my eyes and lunges opened

Just put a post up for next time you are up there and hook up with some locals, its the only way

An inch of snow & thick fog up there yesterday lunch time.
Try most of the North facing combes & Weacombe.

was up there sunday it made for quite a plesant ride what a difference a day makes.

Found Weacombe more by luck than judgement!! loved it nice and greasy at the minute had the pleasure of watching a mate dish out and end up in the brook/stream

Ahh, the Quantocks. My patch, and I've not ridden there for 13 years. Mind you, I started in '91, on a European 'atb' and then a MF Courier, then hired a Stumpjumper, amazing, then bought an Orange Clockwork, brilliant. /looks at 1990 clockwork....
Yeah downhills, the best ones are the long combes where you can switch in and out of different lines, racing your mates. Holford Glen has to be one of the best, get into it via the most easterly entrance that bruises Dowsborough.
You're best off hooking up with locals though, but it's not difficult to work out your best routes. Don't forget, in the summer, pick fast climbs so you can outpace the flies, and make sure you finish at a pub, probably the Blue Ball.....

probably the Blue Ball..

The Blue Ball is in the ideal situation but always strikes me as a bit upmarket (as in snooty) for MTBers. 😕

would like a couple of those streetmap urls with the arrow pointed at the start of the descents?
fabled chimney plz? 🙂
I'd love to come n meet up/tag along but would be too ashamed of slowing the pros down/ looking like a ****!
Cheers for any streetmaps!

I started putting this together then left

nearly 3 years ago now so I'm not that sure where anything is anymore. The map idea worked for me. I actually have more on a proper os map.

Search on here and google and you come up with loads of potentials.

try this for a map website

http://wtp2.appspot.com/wheresthepath.htm?lat=51.14341331047317&lon=-3.1834247657512944&gz=15&oz=7&gt=1

The chimney finishes in a carpark, if I remember correctly it's the one just south of dead womans ditch. Best to just look for tyre prints other riders and things that look like trials. Often the bottom is easier to find than the top so carefully walking up and working out where you are pays well.

I was shown masses by friendly locals.
