I'm looking for a new qr skewer for rear usage on a qr carbon frame.

I quite like the look of the DT Swiss RWS (ratchet style) v the traditional cam action qr's plus the sense that I am perhaps less likely to over-tighten the DT v cam action.

Any thoughts?

Thanks.

I had rws skewers in my kinesis tipster and I felt the held the wheel better and I had less front disc rub when out of the saddle pulling the bars left to right.

They are expensive and heavier but I think they are well worth the extra money.

My XTC came with RWS. Always creaked horribly until I swapped to proper bolt-thru.

Although, thinking about it, the source of the creaking may well have been the swappable inserts in the dropouts that enabled the XTC frame to be used with either QR or 142x12.

Difficult to say whether you would over tighten due to the rws skewer. I swapped from a cam style skewer to a rws on my singlespeed bike due to the wheel slipping, so the rws actually allowed me to get the qr tighter and stop the wheel slipping

I have them on my Croix de Fer and rate them over the standard QR ones.

Shimano all the way, never rated external cams of any description. The RWS system looks too fragile and open to user error.

Over tightening here:

Always thought they were a bit crap myself. I like the Halo hex skewers for bolt-in but tbf for QR I've never tried anything that's better than Shimano

Can you swap end caps and go to 10mm rws?
But yes, 5mmQR rws are great ime.

Got one on the front wheel of my Stumpjumper with a normal Shimano QR on the back. That's how it came from new.

I prefer the operation of the Shimano QR. Maybe the DT Swiss RWS is stiffer, but it's hard to say without a back-to-back comparison.
It's much slower to get the wheel in/out and after however many years it now spins while trying to get it properly tight in the drop-out so it's hard to tighten fully.

I've had problems with quite a few QRs. I replace with Shimano, then have no further problems.
