With just getting myself a new bike after a good number of rides, I've found the QR is crap! It's such a pain. I like the look of the adjustable s/posts, are they really worth shelling out for? I notice in singletrack this month there are some more due on the market this year. Is it worth waiting & just getting a quality Hope QR until the market & choice improves.
Upto you really, if however you need a 27.2 there are only 2 options (1 remote)
Theres a quality Hope QR?!
The lever is sooo short
The salsa metal on metal ones (not the metal on rubbery-plastic, which will wear out) ones look nice
If you've got a decent QR (one that will go from full clamping force to just enough to hold the post (unweighted) but move with a small force) you can just about push it down by lightly sitting on it (be careful) on smooth bits before steeper descents.
Though a full dropper (The superstar/pure race/kind shock i900 R one is apparantly (According to the mag (i think?)) the one to go for, having more drop, being lighter, cheaper and likely to develop the least play. The R bit meaing you have the handlebar remote.
For some reason only available in 30.9 and 31.6mm sizes, which is a bit restrictive on frames with narrow seatpost sizes
Theres a lighter i950 on its way though with a better (looking) seat clamp
Anyone know if anyone does a seat QR with an internal cam like shimano/mavic etc wheel QRs?
if you drop the seat regularily then get one. they are worth it if you use the feature. I like the fact they return to exactly the same position rathern than faffing when raising.
I prefer the total adjustability of a maverick v a GD.
Remote is handy but would not be a deal clincher for me unless i raced -- easy to see downhill coming
The drop on mine is 3 and 4 inch I cant see why you would need more than this tbh and neither seatpost is actually 5 inch out of the frame...was a thread on this so search for it if bothered.
thing is if you have a remote you use it all the time, whereas if you have to reach under the seat you use it a lot less often.
Anyone know if you can retrofit a lever to the i900? as they are a lot cheaper from http://www.xxcycle.com
It looks like you can't richc unless there is a bodge - there is a cable stop missing from the i900.
I got one from xxcycle - I love it, apart from there seems to be a slight fault in that it goes down slightly just from me sitting on it, without pulling the lever. Not sure if its just because I am a bloater or what. ๐
Being able to get the saddle so low and with so little faff is great though.
I've just gone for the adjustable post option. Will be reporting back!
