Hey all,

Has anyone ridden the Pyrenees on the French side?

If so, any good?

What areas?

Is there much lift assisted riding, if so, do they still run early September?

Basically the outlaws have a house in Carcassonne and we always go out there but the riding is getting a bit samey, can get to the Pyrenees in 1hr 30min so basically I'm trying to assess if it is worth it!

Any help would be much appreciated, thanks

my bruv has a house in Quillan. Lovely part of the world.
Aix la Thermes is the ski resort nearby, i think they do Mtb in the summer.
The whole area is very popular with bikers, mainly road, but I understand that there is also good mtb trails to be had.

heading quillan way again in July (will catch Le Tour this time too), have friends there and been going there for 7 years or so.

Some great trails without being too gnarly.

Have also had a great time with AQR in Luchon.

Quillan is good for XC (FFC centre vtt Aude en Pyranees), 30 mins further on over the col d'axat is the Capacir (les Angles, Formiguere), great area with lifts as well as XC. 30 min further gets you to La Molina bike park in spain, good stuff there.

There is also some good riding to the north east of Narbonne (Nevian, 30 mins), Fontfroide and Clape near Narbonne (30 mins) , inland from Perpignan (Agly, Ile sur tet, Cabanes de corbiers, Balesta) (1.30 ish), some stuff above fitou (45mins). There is a centre FFC vtt in the montagne noire just east of carcassone as well but its a bit crap.

http://www.utagawavtt.com/ Search under aude and pyranees orientale and you will find loads of stuff.

If you are down during the summer hols, do not try to go to any of these places on a saturday though. The 45 mins fitou to Carcassone took me 3 hours when I forgot this.

I should have read the post properly - my outlaws are about 30 mins east of Carcassonne. Must check some of those out - we normally ride road when we're there and save the mtb for Luchon.
