Ah, I see. Sorry to be pessimistic but IME the post will very quickly become a problem too. Not sure what to suggest about the cable, swap it for good quality gear cable, with a middleburn oiler perhaps? Have you got the new lock-on grip compatible remote lever? I've managed to snap two of the original ones with little more than harsh language.
Latic < yeah its the ODI grip one, have you had problems with that?
