It's that time of year it seems. I'm being driven mad by punctures, especially annoying as it's singlespeed time with all the mud and of course it's always the rear tyre that goes resulting in extra faff getting it on and off. I reckon I get easily 2 or 3 a ride, sometimes more, it's usually a big thorn or two.

I've tried slime-filled tubes (useless), I've tried "heavier" tyres, I've changed routes, but still the little buggers find that tyre every single ride. I now have about 3 million inner tubes I need to sit down with and repair, but what do any of you lot do to prevent the ******ing things getting through in the first place?! Should I bite the bullet and have the wheel re-built with a tubeless rim?

(Apologies for the semi-rant but I'm seriously hacked off!).

I've had 3 punctures in 3 days on my Brompton. It's a right faff doing the rear wheel (hub gears & derailleur) as well.

Every time it's been slivers of glass, no doubt a result of beered up dickheads throwing glasses into the road

go for Stans (expensive) or Joe's (the same but half the price) on your existing rims. 'ghetto' is ok but it's can be a right faff whereas the 'systems' just work.

Ahhhhhh...this is where I sound dumb I know. Sorry. I've largely avoided tubeless as the terminology gets me. Is "ghetto" the Stan's system for use on conventional rims? Sorry to ask, I trawled round the net but got totally lost (not hard at my age!). Does it really solve punctures then?

I've had just one this year, when I hit a sharp rock and split a tyre open. new tube, stuck a 10Euro note in to hold the tyre together to get me home. Still can't see the point of this tubeless marlarkey.

Perhaps you need better tyres? I started getting far fewer punctures when I switched to Panaracer Fire XC Pros. Is it the tpi number you need to look at rather than the overall weight?

ime the number of punctures you get directly relates to tyre pressure and your choice of tyre

You're not running Conti Speed Kings by any chance? 😕

Got a couple of bikes, but am now thinking about tyre choice as.....the rear on the s/s in indeed a Speed King. Presumably they have previous?

Slime tubes work well down here. They're compulsory on our winter rides. You must have different thorns where you are.
