@cp please can you post a link to the light?

That would have been useful huh. Got mine a couple of weeks ago from this seller.

The enhanced top cashback was just for yesterday, that's expired now though I wouldn't be surprised if they do something similar on Monday. The discount code works until Tuesday

Merlin has 11 speed Ultegra/XT chains for a tenner. They're the wrong speed for me sadly but a bit of a bargain if they work for you.

If this was available in medium, I’d be buying it rather than sharing it here -

https://www.rmcycles.co.uk/bikes/mountain-bikes/pivot-shuttle-sl-ride-slxxt-large-desert-sage-green-2025__24761

Was looking at that myself.
Google suggests the Fazua motor is a bit flakey? Dunno.

If they were my local bike shop, maybe I’d risk it.

Also no range extender for that motor.

I've chatted to a Santa Cruz dealer that now refuses to sell the Hecker SL fitted with the same motor as it's that unreliable. They said they'd had replacement motors that didn't work out of the box but other customers who'd done plenty of mileage but had no bother.

Thanks for the Endura psa. Now to see if the sizing works (seems Endura is a bit of a Lottery).  Made the price of a onesie for the inevitable bad weather in Wales uplift days reasonable, 3/4 bibs, photochromic glasses and overshoes added all for a lot less than the list price of the onesie alone.

I know people who use AirTags for bike security (or stick one in their bags when flying with a bike) so I figure relevant enough - 38% off a pack taking them below £20 each

[Links don't work for Amazon so you'll just have to search]

Dedicated mtb bootliners with compartments and clever attachments seem a great idea. But a £15 3x3m heavy duty black tarp and an ikea bag does 90% the same job with the added bonus a crinkled up tarp in the back of your car doesn't look anywhere near so obvious it's covering thousands of pounds worth of cycle equipment to dodgy passers by.

Even if you do buy one. I'd still suggest also buying a cheap tarp to cover it. a cheap £8 2x2 should do the job

tarp short for tarpoline is plastic and has a limited life span without being recyclable and scratches the heck out of your car bike bumpers etc ......I've owned my boot today 13 years it was a hundred pounds and still performs its job amicably and the dog loves sitting on it after a ride where I'm not sure a tap would do the same .

Just a counter point of view

tarpoline

hahahaha. maybe it was all the kids jumping up and down on yours that scratched your car and bike. 😉

"Tarp" is short for "Tarpaulin".

From screwfix:
Tarpaulin, also known as a tarp, is a waterproof material commonly used as a protective cover for outdoor equipment, furniture, or vehicles. It is made of a strong synthetic material, such as polyester or polyethene, and comes in different sizes and thicknesses to fit various applications. Tarpaulins are used to protect equipment and materials from rain, sun, wind, and other weather conditions. Additionally, they can be used as temporary shelters or as a groundsheet for outdoor activities. Tarpaulins are easy to install and remove and are cost-effective compared to other protective covers. They are also durable and can withstand wear and tear from outdoor use. Overall, tarpaulins are a versatile and practical solution for protecting outdoor equipment and materials from various weather conditions.

I don't have a car anymore but my last car almost always had the rear seats folded flat with a large tarp filling the entire boot space and as I commuted part way by car then the remainder by bike 5 days a week for around 9 years.. Bike in and out of it twice a day. and often other bikes at the weekend. 5 years on I still have that tarp intact and it never once scratched anything. A dog is far more likely to scratch heck out of car bumpers and interior than any sheet of tarpaulin.
Recyclable tarpaulins are available too BTW

I already said I think dedicated boot liners seem a great idea. I'd guess even more so if you have a dirty smelly dog jumping in and out too.

My mates got a tarp.

He's ripped the back of his car seat with the forks and damaged his rear bumper trying to get the bike out the back. Shame as it's a nice car.

The hiplok is padded so protects the car better than a tarp, has velcro stitched to the underside so it stays in place when loading and unloading. Has a padded flap that covers the bumper so it doesnt get scratched. Also has a storage pocket that you can store stuff so it's hidden out of sight and has a cover that rolls out over the bike once it's in the boot.

Yea a tarp is cheaper but I usually keep cars for 10 to 15 years so want to get as much protection as I can.

The thread is called

'PSAs that may or may not be amazing enough to warrant their own thread'.

The boot cover on sport pursuit is £25 cheaper than direct from hiplok so thought it may be worth posting if someone is looking for a boot liner.

lol

Your mate sounds a right calamity. Is mountainbiking even a safe hobby for him?

to reiterate... I'm not saying don't buy a nice bike/boot liner. Not at all. I'm actually warning folks not to advertise you have an expensive bike in the back of your car by having it wrapped in a fancy bike liner.

Thanks Rich. I have ordered the £60 one. Seems like a great product and good value compared to a tarp which would be a right mess.

Endura stuff turned up but bitten by the random sizing. I'm usually between an L and an XL. Bearing in mind I have a few other endura mtb tops and L or XL generally fits me fine.

I've an XL hoodie though which is huge.

I tend to need XL on MTB bottoms to get enough leg length.

I ordered XL for everything.

1. Thermal bib knickers fit great.

2. Thermal gravel tights way too short in the leg and and also a bit tight. I also didn't really like them - design is too fussy.

3. Windchill jacket way too tight.

So that's 1 out of 3 I'm keeping and I'll have to re- order the others

Total randomness

Having had one for over a year, it's a great water resistant, windproof, light softshell, but it's not waterproof in persistent rain. It's similarly waterproof to a Gore Infinium jacket I have, but is more comfortable to wear (more flexible, thinner, lighter). It's very breathable and dries very quickly.

My stuff turned up today;

I'm usually the annoying gap between M & L (or XL in Castelli)

1. Onesie - ordered M and it fits OK, bottom half a bit baggier than I like (I do have short legs which never helps), but it's a foul weather item and I can live with it for the bargain price.  Now stored in the uplift kit box for the inevitable rain at BPW.

2. 3/4 bibs - ordered M, fit well and seem good quality for the price

3. Waterproof overshoes - were about £13 so won't complain

4. Photochromic glasses - will need to wait to see how they are, but for about £30 worth a pop.

So it's all being kept, thanks for the PSA.

Off the back of @hopefiendboy's 'Back to basics' thread, I stupidly searched online for steel hardtail... just as well these are OOS in my size. 52% off Transition TransAm builds in small or large, now £1,390 in chrome finish. Just look how shiny.

Another Endura WTF sizing moment here. As I said, the M MT500 spray trouser is a great fit for me. The pair that turned up were way smaller everywhere. Exactly a year since I ordered the first pair. I mean, how can that be?

I've sent them back in exchange for a L, but I expect they'll fit like a pair of XXL fishing waders!

It's not just Endura. I ordered a pair of Peal Izumi shorts - same model name as the ones already owned, assumed it was just a new year, new colour and didn't look too closely.  No, completely different fabric, fit/construction, no zip fly.  Everything I liked about the first pair except the backwards pockets was different.

Yes, classic amazon listing for shimano parts.  some of the sellers are based in Europe.  The original listing will have been German.

The one I linked to is Amazon UK

Nice one here

Exposure MAxx-D MK 17 (the new one, with USB C PD charging and eliptical beam lens)

£359.10 in code BF10.

Cheaper than the ebay deal from the same seller I mentioned last week.

USB C charging is nice.. finally!

First ride on mine this morning and the beam pattern is noticeibly wider than the MK15 I previosuly had.  Think Exposure have nailed this one, finally the light I've been after.  And I've tried a few....

Still not a massive fan of their mounts though.

If you're not worried about having the very latest gen of MaXx-D, then Winstanleys have the previous gen for 299.  I'm still using the mk5 I bought 12 years ago and have no plans to upgrade it, they're cracking lights.

Me neither.

Seeing as this site is the No1 haunt for Exposure fanbois

Does anyone know if Exposure has ever explained why they use a mount that holds their fairly substantial lights right at one end where it's got most leverage and most chance of vibration.?

Or why their lights are all cylindrical housings rather than a flatter shape similar to most of the competition?

It does look odd, but I've used Exposure for over 10 years, the mount has never broken.

In case anyones not realised, the mount has a little hole in it as well, so you can stick the allen key through and adjust the light direction whilst its attached to the bike.
