Hope 29er pro5 rear wheel 142x12mm rear wheel Wiggle £170.99 in black+ Shimano HG only

https://www.wiggle.com/p/hope-fortus-30-pro-5-rear-wheel-6-bolt?color=blackblack&wheelSizeAxleSpacing=29%22+%7C+142mm+x+12mm+Axle+%7C+Non+Boost&freehubBody=Shimano%2FSRAM+HG

And you can get a 142-148 boost kit for £16 on Merlin cycles(HUB259 6bolt)

Oddly enough the same wheel is 190.99 on CRC, but still a good deal.

Yet another wheel to add to the ever growing collection 😆

I believe they’re owed around 30k

I spotted that too. So it wasn't just us getting 'free' Haribo - CRC was getting them free as well!

great deal on the hope pro 5 rear wheels, looking at £200 for the hub alone, i'd have jumped for a silver one.

tredz codes

GATBFX4XWD £5/£50

Google have good trade-in deals at the moment.

Google Pixel 8 £699

Trade in my pixel 7 for £390.

Cost £309 after trade-in and also get £125 to spend in the Google store, 6 months of Google 1 premium, 3 months of YouTube premium, 6 months of Fitbit premium.

Is it really worth spending over £300 on upgrading a 7 to an 8? I still use a Pixel 3a and just can't see any benefit in going to a newer model.

Not for me I'm happy with my pixel 7 but was just showing the trade-in offers and used my phone as an example.

I usually keep my phone for 4 years but plenty of people upgrade every year and want the latest tech.

@gravedigger what the fit like on those scarpa boots?

I bought the Scarpa Treks in 43 and also bought some Scarpa SL Actives in 43 at the same time but the SLs didn't fit at all, much more narrow than the Trek which I think are the comfort last.

I'm a 43 in my Shimano MT51s and MW81, I have some Specialized Expert Carbon mtb shoes in 42 that are snug and also some in 43 which are less snug and I use with my woolie boolie socks instead of normal thin DeFeet socks. I am a 43 in my North Face mules, and a 43 in my Merrell Moab II Mid boots, which fit like a glove when used with the green Superfeet insoles.

With the green Superfeet insoles in the Scarpas they fit really nicely (probably would of with the supplied insoles but I've used the Superfeet for so long I stayed with them). They are close fitting around the heel and ankle (I kick my heel down into the boot when doing them up) and the toe box is roomy - almost making me think I 'might' have been able to go to 42 but when testing size with my foot pushed forward I get the fingers width behind the heel as most fitting videos suggest, and the insole test looks about right.

I did go out walking for about 4 hours in my Merrells around a local loop of about 9.5 miles and 2280 ft of elevation, so that my feet were 'swollen' up, and then tried the Scarpas for another couple of hours around the house and up and down the stairs, before finally deciding they were good.

I have now walked a lot in them - initially my lower legs needed breaking in to cope with the extra stiffness of the ankle support, and my feet needed hardening up as well. But when I bought the second pair and walked in them, the was no breaking in needed, now I was broken in... They have not creased up excessively before the toe box after many miles of walking, which would have happened if they were too long.

I'm using some Bridgedale merino socks so pretty normal thickness.

Anyone got any experience of this frame? Always fancied trying out a steel hardtail. I thought I could swap all the bits over from my modified Calibre Line 29. Geometry numbers seems pretty similar between the two bikes.

Been pondering one myself, it’ll cost me a new dropper plus the seat tube is longer than my current frame, so I won’t be able to fit a 200mm dropper. Tempted at the price though, might sit on my hands until payday.

That Tuo trainer is cheap!

Is it because it is awful?

Anyone had any experience?

@dogthomson Curious as to this myself.  Its by far one of the most aesthetically pleasing ones I've seen and folds away pretty tidily too.  Found this review which seems favourable and suspect that any inconsistency in the power readings would most likely be negligible for what its intended purpose would be for us mere middle aged mortals 🤣

The DC Rainmaker review seems pretty favourable https://www.dcrainmaker.com/2020/10/elite-tuo-smart-trainer-in-depth-review.html

was going to mention the NS frames at CRC. Was/am seriously tempted by the 27.5 one, build it up SS with some 140/150mm forks for winter but the state of my bike dungeon at the minute and wanting to treat myself to other stuff means I'll probably pass. 29er, 27.5 and some jump frames...

the cromo feels much shorter than you'd expect.

lovely frame though, if a touch heavy.

@lovewookie  hmm I went for a medium rather than a large as the reach seemed reasonably long.

any thoughts on size for 5'10?

Cheers

you're probably OK tbh. I had a large, am 6'2 and long torso so like long bikes. I did think the reach would be OK, but with the slacker HA (at the time) old school thinking about bike fit, where I was coming from, doesn't really apply.

edit: for 5'10 I'd guess a 20" seat tube length (on the large) would be pushing it too.

Lol indeed. "..exceptional attention to detail"... well except the wheels, bars, stem (STEM!), seatpost, cranks.. etc

Ive had an Elite Tuo for a few years now, its pretty decent. Nice design, doesn't take up much space, pretty quiet. The "road" feel is great and it works well in ramping up the resistance to simulate hills etc in Zwift. ERG mode is also good.

The accuracy is hard to gauge though, I feel it over eggs power especially climbing in Zwift. If I'm giving it full gas, I can hit 1500 watts in zwift in the sprints. I'm not small (85 kg, 190cm and v fit and strong) but that seems a bit OTT. Ive always meant to borrow a power meter and compare, but never got round to it. It appears to calibrate fine and I've followed the set up correctly where you basically need to warm the tyre up by riding for 10 mins, pump it to 110psi, then adjust the roller correctly. This is a bit of a faff  but is apparently enough to keep it calibrated according to DC rainmaker. I also maybe should try another game as it may be a Zwift issue rather than the trainer.

At £99 its a steal though.

1500w in Zwift is a lot! I don’t think I’ve topped 650w or so in a sprint - although I’m normally hammered from the race by then.

Out on the road I’ve briefly topped 1000w a couple of times in a maniacal sprint up a modest gradient of hill - using assioma Uno pedals to measure power. Just can’t get anywhere near that on Zwift - using a Kickr Core.

I’ve recently got a rocker plate so standing up sprinting is even worse now 🤣

Well my attempt to resist lasted a matter of hours... medium (I'm 5'8" so assume it'll be spot on) NS Bikes Surge ordered. Will probably try and slacken it out a touch with an angleset if I can but should be spot on for pootling around from the doorstep on some bridleways and messing in winter slop.

SRAM 10 speed powerlock chain connectors are now down to 10p each on Wiggle.
https://www.wiggle.com/p/sram-powerlink-and-powerlock-chain-connector-5300003847?color=black&sizeStandard=10+Speed
8 speed are also 10p but 9 speed are 50p and 11 and 12 speed an extortionate 59p.
https://www.wiggle.com/p/sram-powerlink-and-powerlock-chain-connector
Might be worth stocking up if you're buying other stuff.

They work perfectly well in a SLX 12 spd chain and cassette using a Deore mech.

Unite 50% off this weekend. That's in total off the RRPs, rather than off the already reduced prices.

It takes 50 quid off cranks, so £200 for 155 mm cranks which is good. As above though, some feedback on recent threads to read.

Sorry to hijack the thread a little..... I purchased a Unite bashguard from their site (Where it states British made) last year, I was about to purchase another this year but I was on Ali Express looking for a head torch and noticed Unite branded bashguards for £5 from China!

I ordered the Ali Express guard and the guard is identical, the only thing it was missing was the Unite packaging, the actual guard is exactly the same.

I've had a search but couldn't see any threads about Unite?

I bought one of those fake Unite bash guards from China a couple of years ago. They're definitely fake but work perfectly well and you can't see the logo once they're fitted.

Unite now coat their products in Cerakote (people have complained about the finish) rather than anodising them. They then claim every order is custom made so won't accept returns.

I much prefer a polycarbonate bashguard to a solid alu one, seems to me the latter is more likely to crack your ISCG tabs if you properly belt it on something.
