I’m thinking of taking a trip to Les Gets in 2024 to watch the World Cup. Has anyone done the same in the past and any tips?
I want to watch the downhill and the XC but also try and ride a bit (maybe after the racing?)
Went to watch the World Champs. There's not a lot in the way of tips really, it's very very accessible in terms of riders, location, accomodation, everything is 'there'. DH is on one side of the hill, XC the other, it's a 10 mins walk between the 2. But they'll mostly run at different times anyway apart from an odd crossover in practices etc.
My only tip is to book accommodation early. As Weeksy says watching the race is really easy. The DH is on Mt Cherry in Les Gets and you can just freely wander around taking it all in.
My preference for riding accommodation is to stay in Morzine. It's downhill from everywhere else in the area so you can always get home. If you have a mechanical or the lifts go off for some reason, you can almost always roll back into town.
defo book early

Not for us on World Champs... the lad broke his arm 3 weeks before the racing, we then decided to book our accomodation, we were 10 mins walk at the bottom of hill from town (they had a free bus you could get too), price was OK, location was good, appartment was nice. Sure it's easier to book early, but we didn't have a massive issue even 3 weeks out.
I have been 3 times now fantastic venue, like said above Dh on one side and Xc the other, really nice town, we generally go weds to monday when racing starts fri-sun, we will be going again in 24 🙂
Thanks all, really useful info, and sounds a lot easier than I was expecting!
Yep we booked hotel in centre of morzine 3 ish weeks before the world cup this year, £600 for 2 people for 6 days I think, and then realised it was the world cup week! Absolute bonus. As already said, you can ride in the morning, get yourself to Les Gets and immerse yourself in the event village and racing (can drag your bike up on the hill to watch the DH. I was warned by someone in a pharmacy that there had been loads of bikes nicked so don't let it out of your sight). Then when you've finished getting drunk/starstruck you can freewheel down back to morzine on the road
Yeah good point there, don't let your guard down with bike security. It's an absolute free for all for organised gangs of bike thieves. Don't make it easy for them. We always take locks and chains.
For those that have been… are there trails open with the World Cup taking over? Not looking for anything hardcore but would like to get some riding in if we can. But I can imagine the WC runs over parts of the trails so they will be closed off?

not been to Les Gets or Morzine to ride so it’s a new one for me.
All of Morzine and Avoriaz will be open as normal. You won't even know there's a race on.
Definitely book early for next year, believe the Spartan World Champs are on the same weekend as well next year in Morzine.
We’re also looking to do this as well, have got accommodation with free cancellation about half an hour away. We will have a 1.5 year old so the chances of riding are fairly minimal. There’s the Tour de France too I believe the same week so planning on making it a long trip and getting some of that in too
